Deacey is new Avenue boss

John Deacey has been appointed as the new Bradford Park Avenue manager following the departure of Lee Sinnott.

The Avenue assistant has been promoted to first-team boss, with Vince Brockie, who was reserve chief at Guiseley, coming in as his No 2.

Deacey – who took over from former manager Dave Cameron at Horsfall only to move aside when Sinnott had resolved contractual issues with previous club Port Vale – will start his second spell at the helm in an FA Trophy first qualifying round tie at home to Clitheroe on Saturday.

A statement from Avenue today said the club had parted company with Sinnott by mutual consent.

It read: “Times have become very strained over the past few weeks following the club’s disappointing home defeat to Buxton in the FA Cup third qualifying round, which had followed on from the team’s poor start to this season’s league campaign.

“Clearly, the results of the team over the last couple of months have not been as either Lee or the board would have wished for...the board felt it was in the best interests of the club to give the new manager every opportunity to achieve promotion this season.”

Chairman Dr John Dean said: “Lee is a good manager as proved by his successes at Farsley Celtic.

“It’s very unfortunate things have not worked out for him at Bradford and I’m sure he will find success elsewhere.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash against their UniBond Division One North visitors, Deacey said: “Chris Hall missed both the first meeting and the replay against Buxton because he was poorly but he will be in the squad.

“Otherwise, it will be the same because Chris Stabb and Jamie Price are still out through injury.

“We know something about Clitheroe even though they are in a different division. We played them in a pre-season friendly. The link there was because Bob Blackburn is a good friend of their chairman.

“They gave us a tough game then and I expect another stern test.”
