Liversedge had an excellent victory on the road but Thackley could not make a winning start under their new manager as the local rivals endured differing Kool Sport Northern Counties East League fortunes.
LIVERSEDGE travelled to Arnold Town and brought all three points back from Nottingham with them as they edged a five-goal Premier Division thriller.
They made a dream start as Joe Hewitt’s pass picked out Luke Sherman and the big striker controlled before netting a shot on the turn.
Chris Freestone equalised but Sedge were back in front before the interval after Paul Walker and Jermaine Moyce had combined to present Sherman with another chance to shoot.
A screamer of an effort by Brett Adams levelled the scores in the 83rd minute but Sedge were not finished. A Brook Newton through ball in the last minute found Walker and he curled a shot into the bottom corner.
Dave Morgan’s tenure at THACKLEY began with a 1-0 home defeat as Maltby Main netted an early goal and rode their luck to keep the hosts out.
A 13th-minute shot from Lee Mellon took a deflection off one of his team-mates on its way in.
Reds spokesman Chris Frank said: “From then on we dominated but we couldn’t force a goal no matter how hard we tried.
“We did everything but score after laying siege to their goal for most of the match.”
Meanwhile, there were Division One defeats for Brighouse Town and Eccleshill United – and both results were bad for the Eagles.
BRIGHOUSE went down 2-1 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare, who had been joint-bottom with Eccleshill.
Town took the lead through Andy Markham just before the hour but were in front for just six minutes.
John Booth levelled and James Flowers completed the comeback eight minutes from time to earn Welfare their first points of the season.
ECCLESHILL are now stranded at the foot of the table after a 2-0 defeat at Pontefract Collieries, the home side’s Jovan Maric netting a goal in each half.
