Kittrick: There's more to come

The Lions have won their two opening UniBond Premier Division fixtures and manager Steve Kittrick expects things to get even better when his squad reach full fitness.

Guiseley opened their season with a 2-0 home victory over Matlock Town when the bench was packed with talent.

Crowd favourite Danny Ellis, a central defender snapped up when Bradford City released him three years back, and three close-season signings were left out of the starting line-up.

Midfielders Craig Bent-ham and Nathan Joynes, both of whom were at the Bantams, plus former Sheff-ield Wednesday and Notts County man Liam Needham were all on the bench with Ellis.

Kittrick said: “They weren’t fully fit and that is the only reason why they were not considered for the starting line-up.

“We have to get them all some time on the pitch over the next week or two and then my problems will start.”

Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Chris Holland, who won England under-21 caps in his early days with Preston North End and Newcastle United, and ex-Farsley Celtic striker James Nestor did not even make the substitutes.

“When you look at that class, that skill which will be available soon, it’s almost frightening to think about,” added Kittrick.

“Some came on in the second half last Saturday and some got even more match time in Wednesday’s win at Whitby Town.

“When they are all fully fit, my job will be very difficult. I will have to keep them all happy but if we are winning games then they will be.”
