Bulls ace Steve Menzies today announced he will play on for another year at Odsal.

The Aussie star, 36, had said earlier this summer he hoped to hold off retirement plans after storming into Super League with Bradford.

And it has now been confirmed the former Test second-rower has signed a new deal with the club for 2010.

Menzies had spent all his career at Manly before leaving for the Bulls after last season’s NRL Grand Final win.

But he has had a big impact and missed just one game this term, while scoring 12 tries.

Menzies said: “I’m definitely happy to be staying. I’ve really enjoyed my first 12 months here.

“The family’s settled in well, the club’s been great and, maybe ten games into it, the body felt pretty good, so I was sort of hoping that I’d play again.

“I really wanted to do that with Bradford. I didn’t want to go to another team and I’m happy they were thinking the same.”

The legendary player revealed he felt “more pressure” than any other time in his career coming over to England but believes he has proved his worth in what has been a difficult season for Bradford.

“It’s easy loving playing the game when you’re winning every week and everyone is happy,” said Menzies.

“But if you can really still love what you’re doing – enjoy turning up to training and doing video sessions, which aren’t much fun when you’re watching knowing you’re making mistakes – then that’s a good sign to carry on.

“I think I’ve changed my game since I came here. I’ve been able to read things and know where we need to be and that’s part of my role since coming to the club.

“We have had probably more disappointments than ups this year and it has been frustrating looking back at the games we lost by just a couple of points.

“But I’ve really enjoyed it and I think we can definitely build on it next year.”

Boss Steve McNamara was delighted to get the signature of Menzies, who has played centre and stand-off as well this term.

“Steve has been everything we expected him to be and more besides,” he said.

“He is a proven professional who knows his way to the try line and he’s been a super player for us. He’s only missed one game and his play has been fantastic.

“He’s up there with our leading try scorers, has tremendous off-loads and puts in some big defensive hits for us and I am delighted he will be here for another season. I know Steve is too.”
