Baildon took over at the top of JCT600 Bradford League Division One on a dramatic day of action yesterday when the bottom three sides all won.
They took advantage of defeats for East Bierley and Bradford & Bingley to jump from third to first after a 104-run win over second-placed Pudsey St Lawrence.
Skipper Ian Philliskirk top-scored with 68 and received good support from Tabbi Bhatti (35) and Ahsan Butt (34) as Baildon totalled 230 for six.
They then bowled out St Lawrence for 126 to gain a maximum 20 points as Craig Hitchenor took three for 28.
Baildon are 13 points ahead of last week’s leaders East Bierley, who went down to a seven-wicket defeat at Woodlands.
The win ended the reigning champions’ dismal run of four successive defeats, but they are still third from the bottom of the table.
Some remarkable bowling by paceman Safraz Ahmed and slow left-arm spinner Chris Brice restricted the normally free-scoring Bierley side to 151 for nine, which included 42 not out from Kez Ahmed and 44 extras.
Brice took four for nine and Safraz four for 22 as Woodlands imposed a stranglehold on Bierley’s batsmen on a damp pitch.
Woodlands cruised to their target in 31.2 overs, led by Nicky Rushworth, whose innings of 62 contained 12 fours as he shared a second-wicket stand of 92 with opener Sam Frankland (32).
Opening bowler Zeeshan Qasim took a hat-trick as bottom club Manningham Mills beat Farsley by 60 runs at Scotchman Road.
Things were going well for Farsley when they bowled out Mills for 159, with Yorkshire second-team pace bowler James Lee claiming five for 48, but they then slumped to 99 all out in 25 overs with Qasim taking six for 34.
Yorkshire all-rounder Richard Pyrah (55) and Uzair Mahomed (52) both scored half-centuries in Pudsey Congs’ 74-run home win over Saltaire.
Thanks to their efforts, Congs reached 181 for nine before bowling out Saltaire for 107 with slow left- armer Glenn Roberts taking three for 16.
Cleckheaton beat Yeadon at home by 42 runs, Mal Nicholson top scoring with 81 in their 190 for nine as Greg Lambert took four for 46. They then bowled out Yeadon for 148, with Ian Wardlaw claiming four for 40.
Bankfoot went back to the top of the Second Division after gaining maximum points from their 143-run thrashing of Spen Victoria, while Undercliffe’s one week stay as leaders came to an end when they lost at home to Hartshead Moor by six wickets.
Simon Curry (80) and Marcus Walmsley (51) top-scored in Bankfoot’s 240 before they bowled out Spen for a mere 97.
