Hector Haines of Ilkley finished 16th in the middle distance race of the Junior World Championships in the Dolomites, Italy.
The Airienteers runner (pictured) was the best-placed Briton in the long distance race, having a great run to finish in 21st place.
Now in his last year as a junior, he is hoping to challenge for a place in the senior team for years to come.
Meanwhile, Airienteers have come to the end of their season which was marked by a mixed relay competition held in Northcliffe Park, Shipley.
After the event, the annual club league for 2008 to 2009 results were announced. League veteran international Ali Wood, of Menston, was the overall winner.
Positions are decided by runners’ best six results in eight designated events across the region.
Frank Kew, of Ilkley, was runner-up and Steve Watkins, of Baildon, was in third place.
Other age group results – Male Junior: 1 James Avis, 2 Matthew Brown, 3 Andrew Merrell; Female Junior: 1 Laura King, 2 Cerys Jones, 3 Holly Avis; Male Senior: 1 Steve Watkins, 2 David Bowman, 3 Tim Patterson; Male Veteran: 1 Alistair Wood, 2 Frank Kew, 3 Martyn Gill; Female Veteran: 1 Hilary Allen, 2 Gill Ross, 3 Lindsay King.
The club are holding training sessions in orienteering skills on Friday evenings from 7-9pm at Bradford Rowing Club near Saltaire station.
