Manager Simon Grayson has handed David Prutton a ray of hope over his Leeds United future.
Former Southampton midfielder Prutton, 31, was selected for Grayson’s first game in charge – a 1-1 draw against Leicester at Elland Road on Boxing Day – but has not started a first team match since.
It was thought Hull-born Prutton, whose contract has a year to run, would be on the move this summer but Grayson said: “Prutts has come back looking fit and sharp, as have a lot of players. They all start pre-season on a level playing field with a chance to impress.
“Whatever they did last season is history to a certain degree. It is a new start for everybody and I am not going to discard anyone at this early stage.”
Competition for midfield places restricted Prutton to just one start and three substitute appearances with Grayson in charge.
