Villa eyeing Delph move

City could be set for a windfall with Aston Villa poised to make a bid for Leeds teenager Fabian Delph.

The £6m-rated England under-21 international has been identified by Villa boss Martin O’Neill as one of the brightest talents outside of the Premier League.

And an official approach for the 19-year-old midfielder is imminent according to sources close to Villa.

City will be monitoring events keenly because they have a sell-on clause, believed to be 12 per cent, on any transfer fee.

Delph began his career as a youngster at Valley Parade before moving to Leeds in 2001. He signed a new four-year contract last September.

Delph, voted the Football League young player of the year, has been linked previously with possible moves to Arsenal and Newcastle.

But Villa are poised to firm up their interest in Delph who was voted the Football League Young Player Of The Year for last season.

He also made his England under-21 debut against the Czech Republic.

I assume that comment was tongue-in-cheek!

The phrase, "they have a sell-on clause, believed to be 12 per cent, on any transfer fee", is hardly top journalism. Shouldn't he be firming up his report by speaking to Villa about the claim and to Bradford City regarding the actual sell-on clause?

We are sick of hearing, this club are poised to make a bid and Delph has been linked with that club. All we want to know is, 'do we have a sell-on clause or not and if so, what percentage could we receive?'.

sometimes football is bonkers. We had him till he was TWELVE?? And we are entitled to a cut on that basis??Its a mad world but £750k might just pay for the striker we all dream of. On the other hand it might just disappear into the debt owed to the owners.

Who is the 'striker we all dream of'? I would be happy if we retain Boulders to go alongside Evans and Thorne.

Personally, I would use the money to make Steve jones an offer to come back to VP. After all, he can do a job on the wing until Daley returns, as well as being able to provide pace up front. The money may also help entice Frank Fielding to the club on a season long loan.

Agree with above comments; why the speculation when City must know if they are entitled to anything.

You have to be concerned that if he left in 2001 then the company that sold him no longers exists because of the administrations. Either Parker or City need to confirm the facts here.

Can anyone explain something to me regarding the new season tickets.

On the Official website, it states we can collect our tickets from today. However, on every occasion that it refers to season tickets, it mentions a 'card' NOT a 'book'. Are we not getting a season ticket 'book' for the coming season and how would a 'card' work?

Can anyone on here clarify before I email the office?

New season will be tickets , the card they refer to is the stub you are given to confirm the purchase of your ticket.

With regard to strikers , quite simply we dont need any , Thorne , Boulders & new lad will bang the goals in , we just need to strengthen on both wings and in the centre of the park.

Maybe Simon is keeping potential new signings hush hush to avoid a situation a few years back where we lost Peter Leven when he was on trail with us.

I would personally see the signing of Grant Smith of a positive step but our number one priority is surely a goal keeper.

Even if there was a sell-on clause Capt.Birdseye will find a loophole to prevent it being paid!

You do get a plastic card when you pick up your season ticket. As for Delph all football debts have to be settled in full despite administration. So even Uncle Ken cannot get out of the clause.

Thanks for the clarification boys.

With regard to the actual story, we never hear about OUR rumours so why is Parker printing 'news' about other clubs' rumours. That is, after all, all it is!

Even better news City have cancelled Mclarens contract, In my oppinion he was the least committed player to sign for us in recent memory!!!

As for Delph,Leeds have rejected two bids from Prem clubs for him today so lets just take anything we get as a bonus, after all without any real clarification from the club it may turn out to be worth less than we all hope.

According to posters on the official boards, we are providing swipe cards next season instead of season ticket books. There is even a photo of what they look like. Has anyone picked up their season ticket yet and can confirm/deny this claim?
Some on here have said we are getting books not cards, but the official boards claim this to be incorrect.
If we are gettin swipe cards, how come this hasnt been explained/reported on.

Between the ages of 9 and 12 any player who is registered with a centre of excellance or academy is only signed for one season at time a season at a time.

During that season a youth player can terminate their contract at any time and walk away from the club for nothing.

The club, in this case BCFC, can hold on to the players registration to stop him signing for another club that season, but cannot stop him training with another club.

As soon as the season finishes the player can then register with the other club.

If a player is over 14 and has signed a scholarship agreement, as with your goalie that went to 'boro and the kid that went to Liverpool, thats when compensation and sell on clauses can be added.

Nothing will come of any sell on clause.
If it existed Crooked Bates find a way out of it. Lerts face it, he has laready bankrupted many firms just to line his own pocket. He has only one concern, his balance sheet. Not Leeds, just his.
Crooks always prosper.
