I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on last Friday’s big derby, and Leeds Rhinos started the game very well and got us going backwards a little bit.
We came back but it was a little bit too late. You could say the final scoreline was harsh on us, and their two late tries and the drop goal meant that they pulled away from us, but it just goes to show that when you have the chance to score, you must take it.
We played well in patches and created the opportunities to win the game but we have to learn to be more clinical.
The heat has certainly been a factor at training this week. The muggy conditions have been difficult at Rawdon Meadows, and it is something we aren’t that used to, but you just have to get on with it.
On Sunday, we face Castleford at home, which should be a good game.
They are a classy footballing side, love to throw the ball about and have a lot of talented individuals.
But so have we and we intend to get ourselves into positions to prove that.
Our media and public relations manager Stuart Duffy has said this week that our team spirit is better than it has ever been in all his time here, which is saying something considering that results haven’t gone our way this campaign.
It’s hard to put your finger on what creates a good team spirit but we all get on with each other here at the Bulls and everybody is pulling together.
We are getting back to full strength and our team spirit will be an important factor in what happens for the rest of the season as it can come to the fore when the going gets tough over the closing weeks.
The latest bake-off is between James Donaldson and Paul Sykes.
Sykesy is playing the mind games again here and is threatening to pull out but he did that before and then came out with a Swiss roll to die for.
So James had better be aware that Sykesy is quite capable of pulling something special out of the bag.
