Former Leeds player signs for Brighouse

Brighouse Town’s recruitment drive is ongoing and manager Mark Brier was delighted to announce that he has secured Simon Watson and Simon Wood, who are both well known in the area.

Watson began his career with Leeds United before moving on to Doncaster Rovers and has also played for Farsley Celtic.

Wood has dropped down from the UniBond League to join the ranks at St Giles Road.

Brier, who has worked with both men before at Liversedge, said: “Two Simons and two exceptionally talented and committed individuals. The squad is certainly getting a different look about it.

“Watson adds a massive amount of experience and quality to our club and will help our first team and the younger players with his knowledge. He has had two knee ligament injuries and is in rehab at the moment but eager to get involved with us at Brighouse.

“Wood was player of the season at Mossley last season. I’m delighted to get him and he will add more quality to the club.

“He will be our under-19s manager because he is a superb and highly qualified coach but we have managed to get him on our playing staff as well.

“That was a good effort by us because at least two UniBond clubs were interested in him.

“It has been a busy summer here and we have had to build because the goalposts have moved.

“We are not the new team on the non-league ladder anymore, we have that experience of last year at this level and everyone at the club wants to go a step further.”
