Lund's Forging ahead for City of Bradford

Rotherham Metro’s Long Course Open Meet at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge rarely fails to produce excellent times, and this occasion was no exception.

Continuing his excellent season, City of Bradford nine-year-old James Lund brought home their biggest medal haul with wins in the 50 metres, 100m and 200m breaststroke.

His time of 1min 41.94sec in the 100m was also a personal-best time.

Lund also came fourth in the 50m backstroke and claimed second place in the nine years’ age group Bagcat points table.

Continuing her preparation for this summer’s European Junior Championship in Prague, Sian Morgan was also in good form at the meet.

She bettered her National Qualifying time in the 200m individual medley by 2.5sec to claim first place, and also won the 200m and was third in the 400m freestyle.

This was followed by second place in the 100m free-style and final placings in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

Nine-year-olds Myles Stirk and Laura Hartley, relative newcomers to City’s team, also claimed medals.

Stirk’s gold came in the 200m backstroke and Hartley’s silver in the 50m freestyle.

The former also finished second in the 50m backstroke and fourth in the 50m freestyle, while Hartley was pleased with her fifth-place finish in the 50m backstroke.

Recent national qualifier Luke Constantine continued his good form with a silver medal in the boys 15-16 years 100m butterfly.

Other top-ten finishes were Sam O’Donohoe, 100m backstroke; Lydia Biddiscombe, 50m backstroke; James Dawson, 100m breaststroke; and Josh Zenner, 50m butterfly.

Personal-best times were achieved by Elise Johnson, Rebecca Lund, Biddiscombe, Hartley, Niki Chatburn, Dawson, Kristian Hobson and Zenner.
