Bradford 15-year-old Daniel Stubley has umpired at the prestigious North Finals Yazoo Mini-Hockey Championships in Manchester.
This was the fourth year where umpires aged 14 to 19 on England Hockey’s Path-way to Excellence were able to hone their skills in a competitive environment.
The best 21 young umpires from across the North were selected for the Young Umpire Challenge by the Young Umpire Association Group (YUAG) based on their experience and ability throughout the season under the guidance of YUAG mentors.
The young umpires participated over a full weekend with a practice tournament being held on the Saturday, followed by lectures and talks from respected officials.
On Sunday, the young umpires officiated all the games, with each being assigned their own mentor.
Stubley, from Bradford Hockey Club, who also put in a good performance with his younger brother Mathew at the Under-14 Girls’ Yorkshire play-off finals at Halifax the previous week, umpired eight games at Belle Vue.
