Right on Cue
Bradford No 2 missed a chance to climb Division One of the YORKSHIRE INTER-DISTRICT LEAGUE after a disappointing 3-3 draw at home to bottom side Thorne.
Boover Singh lost both opening frames, the first being a black-ball game after trailing by 40 points.
Gareth Green then dropped his opening frame, handing Thorne their first point of the season, although he picked himself up to make a frame-winning break of 40, Hanif Rafiq levelled the contest by winning both his frames comfortably, the first including a break of 65.
Bradford next travel to joint-leaders Sheffield No 1 on Saturday and need a good result to ease their relegation worries.
With just two games remaining, three clubs are fighting to avoid the second spot, with Thorne already doomed.
Bradford No 1, who are third, take on joint-leaders Castleford No 1 on Saturday at Lilycroft WMC (7.30).
Two points separate the sides and a home victory will ensure the top three fight it out on the final weekend of the season for the title.
The match at Lilycroft will also be the final time a Bradford side plays at the famous club, which is due to shut down within the next few weeks.
Cuedos Snooker Club, on Bullroyd Lane in Allerton, are hosting a PRO-AM COMPETITION this weekend.
The tournament starts on Saturday and is open to anyone, with entry accepted on the day. Contact the club on 01274-497788 for more details.
The deadline for snooker singles and pairs quarter-finals in the BRADFORD CHAMPIONSHIPS has been extended by a week to April 18 at the request of several players, due to the easter period. The semi-finals will still be played at the end of the month.
The BRADFORD & DISTRICT BILLIARDS & SNOOKER ASSOCIATION are looking for anyone who may be interested in getting involved with running the game in the area.
This would largely be to assist the existing committee, ensuring tournaments run smoothly.
There is also a need for referees who would be willing to officiate in the closing stages of the various championships, together with an involvement for both Bradford sides competing at Yorkshire level.
With Jim and Pat Callaghan indicating they may call it a day over the course of the next few years after an excellent 30-plus years’ service, it is essential that Bradford has enough cover in the future.
Only myself and Eddie Ratcliffe are currently regular active referees and we have now stepped up to English level, so additional people are vital for the Bradford competitions.
Those wishing to gain their referee badges can do so throughout the summer break at a local venue. Contact me on 07940-651850 to find out more.
