Sheriffe relief after 'amazing' victory

Rikki Sheriffe says the Bulls’ “unbelievable” late win in Perpignan has boosted confidence immeasurably.

The in-form winger was on the scoresheet again as Bradford pulled off a last-gasp success against Catalans.

It was their first Super League win of the year and the relief among the players was plain to see as they gleefully celebrated Dave Halley’s crucial touchdown.

“There was so much pressure lifted off our shoulders in an instant,” said Sheriffe.

“We kept going until the death. It paid off and the feeling was just unbelievable. It was an amazing game.”

Slick Bradford threw away the shackles to race into an 18-6 lead, playing with a belief and enterprise not yet seen in this campaign.

“We were on fire for the first 30 minutes and now we need to keep playing at that tempo and that pace,” added Sheriffe, who rounded off a sweeping 70-metre break in the first half with a classy finish.

“It was really enjoyable. It’s nice to score those ones where you believe in your team-mates and think ‘Hey up, he might break here.

“You just keep going and get your just rewards. It was a great team try.”

Sheriffe has now scored in each of the last three games and is proving a worthwhile capture from Harlequins.

He said: “It’s a good feeling. I came here to score and I seem to be doing that.

“I’d just been chuckling with Semi (Tadulala) about how whenever he scores I do too and it happened again.”

all well and good scoring them Rikki but you have to stop them scoring as well! His pace and finishing ability isn't the problem...his basic skills of catching, passing and defending are very very questionable!

BUT....lets hope that we see a marked improvement over the next couple of matches. I really don't fancy an early cup exit!

Agree on all points Adey. His attacking is pretty good and if he continues to score then great but he needs to improve his defence especially position wise as he has been caught out numerous times already this year and teams yet to play will have made note of this.

Sure Cas will be throwing at him on Sunday so he needs to be on his game. A win there will be massive for us going back to France where we know their strengths and weaknesses (or should do!)so a decent run in CC would be boost for us.

I like what I see of him, I think there's a lot of ability, but he has had a tough start in a team playing badly and his confidence did look down against Hull. All in all, not a bad start and if he can beef up his defence then he'll be a very good signing.

The guy is capable of scoring plenty of try's the concern is definately his defence, it doesnt help when he plays outside Sykes who is also questionable in defence.
cas will be a very tough game for us, Mind you every game is very tough for us this term.

Just on this weekend's opponents...how much would we all give to have James Evans back in the fold at 3 or 4? Our biggest loss in the offseason if you ask me.

I know that we’re all celebrating our first win but I would if I may, for a moment just put some perspective on the weekends events.
My daughter came home on Sunday evening to tell me of some bad news about one of her friends who had died on the field whilst playing for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats reserve team, his name was Leon Walker, this young man gave his life to our sport.
I know that the Bradford Bulls fans have just about come to terms with the death of Adam Watene last October, some of us still find it hard to understand how a healthy person can just go like that.
I am sure that you are all behind me in sending out our deepest condolences to Leons family, John Kear and the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and all their supporters.
You all know that I always finish my blogs with COM’ON YOU BULLS, but not for today as we remember,
LEON WALKER

I agree, a big loss who was consistent in all aspects of his game, something we seem to have been lacking so far this season.

Big plus to win on Saturday.
One note of caution which we all have picked up is the defence of the back line.
My question is who would have any of our backs in the Top four.
Probably only "SEMI".
Platts goes backwards & sidewards, Sykes comes out of the line,& Sheriffe is a statue.BJ is one person who is trying this season.
My big gripe is still the coaching. Why is Deacon still kicking to touch for penalties."My wife could kick better in her slippers".Seriously this is one aspect of our game which could be improved..Sykes can kick better out of hand.Same with Newton & Deacon who must be encouraged to run with ball from the ruck area ,as Leeds & Saints do.
Lets hope the coaching staff do read most of the comments on here.Actually we the spectors see all the action at first hand...

Whilst a win is a win, and it was great to see the enthusiasm amongst the Bulls players at the end of the game, I am a little nervous with all the talk about turning the corner etc.
The Catalans are also going through a lean spell and with a bit more luck could have won. We have conceded over 100 points in the last three games and Castleford will be flying after their latest win.
I really hope win can pull something off at Cas but I fear the worst!

12:20pm Tue 24 Mar 09

Yes the defence is a problem but just how much is difficult to judge. With the quality Aussies in Catalans side they can score freely against any side on their day. They have opened up all the top sides in the recent past so lets not be too hard on our boys. I agree totally with Ralphie. Our concentration must be spot on at Cas and let's hope after that game we are talking about progression and not back to square one!.
Sherrife took his try superbly and showed nice pace but as has been said he really has problems in defence, not just his inability but playing outside Sykes is difficult for any player.
Not sure about the Evans comments. He is a hard working player but lacks pace far an outside back. We have to look much higher than James Evans if we are to aspire to bringing back Bulls of old.

Evans was very solid in defence haitch, that's what people liked about him, you have to say right now we'd be glad of him in our porous back line.

i have to agree a win against another struggling team should not be seen as a great victory, however a win is a win and having seen the other games it might well be some time before we see another one. Still lets hope that we do start to string together some wins its been depressing seeing the once Mighty Bulls, one of the Big 4 struggling against other poor sides and hailing a win against a poor side, who we would once have really put to the sword in style. !

He might not have been the quickest Haitch but he was strong in defence, reliable gave 100% and scored tries, I for one would like to have in our team/squad for another season. I agree we have to set our sights higher but until that time comes we need consistency from players week in week out and Evans was one of those.

He may just come back and bite us on Sunday along with Hudson and Ferres!!

Just ignore them Steampig. They love to see the Bulls lose. Absolutely no one has said the Bulls have solved their problems let alone intimated they'd won superleague. Bulls have made a step in the right direction. They won a game. They only played the one game in France so all they could do was win it.

I agree with your every word Gumshoe. The point I make is IMO he was not a BIG loss. Leon. Les and Hape were big losses as indeed was JP. Evans was a steady player and better than any centre we have at present (not that thats difficult). But he was injured a lot and to me, fairly run of the mill in other respects.

Back to thread and the point I was going to make originally - IIRC the club made it clear they had to release Evans because of the tightened-up overseas player rules. Then only to find that because of rulings elsewhere they could have kept him as they made clear they had wanted to. Guess it was Evans or Beaver?

Must admit I was pretty peed off to see Jimmy go - he did a pretty good job for us, and I bet he proves a point on Sunday.

Rest it then instead of trying to act clever. No one even listens to you except your boyfriend.
Steve Mac for the Sack I know who you are. Your trouble is your just a gobsh**te who spouts but isn't man enough to do it face to face a bit like at Widnes eh ML84.
Be careful. If you know what Liam did at Widnes, then he will accuse you of being someone else! He is a complete to$$er.

Oooooo, you know who I am, WOW..That's great

You mean when I told Macca he was garbage, 5 yards away from him, when he was surrounded by all his boys? Is that the time you mean?

Sorry Haitch, bit mischievous of me but I'll admit the reason I posted my bit was cos I knew it would react the way it always does - it can't help itself - and in doing so prove your point to Steampig and everyone else. Which, despite thinking itself so clever, it did right on cue.
Have a day off Adeybell, youve tried to make your point before and failed miserabley.

Get back on RLFannies where you can pretend youre something special.

Security word - fill-ring

We all know that you like to fill Ferociuis Sadvark's ring (piece)

The alter ego you used to e-mail the club with to apologise after your tough man actions act at Widnes. 5 yards more like 50 yards away sat in the stand.

Wrong, check your email again.

Right behind the dug out sunshine, where you were all sat, and you know it.

Wrong, check your email again, Mr.

Right behind the dug out sunshine, where you were all sat, and you know it, ask the dentist, he was talking to me.

It wasn't an hardman act either, I stood up and told Macca what I thought of him, it just so happens that you all didn't like hearing it, so you all turned around, must have been at least 4 of you all shouting, f'ing and sending abusive hand gestures my way.

You know what happened that night, you dont have to tell porkies.

You kind of embarrassed yourselves, acting like that in front of women and children, for officials to show that kind of behaviour that you lot did that night is absolutley shocking, physical threats, swearing, obscene hand gestures, you name them, you did them.

All because of two simple words which were..."Rubbish Macca"

Well, you know what they say, the truth hurts. And that really did sting.
