Mullin signs on loan for Bantams

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Paul Mullin Paul Mullin

City have signed target man Paul Mullin from Accrington Stanley on loan until the end of the season.

The 35-year-old striker holds the record for the most number of appearances for Stanley, scoring 132 goals in 316 league games.

Meanwhile, Barry Conlon has joined Grimsby Town in a loan deal for the rest of the campaign.

With Peter Thorne unlikely to be risked tomorrow due to a neck injury, Mullin could be thrown straight into the fray at home to Port Vale.

Has a good record at scoring in these lower leagues.

Can't be any worse than Conlon!! He is a target man and with Jones and Gillespie maybe they plan to use the wings more and get some decent crosses in?

Come on you snipers, slate it before you have seen him play.

Very good signing , strong in the air and will hopefully bring the best out of Michael Boulding.

Mullen played against Port Vale for Accrington on Tuesday night , so while he will be able to give the lads the low down on what to expect from Port Vale , the Port Vale players will also know what Paul Mullen will bring to the table.

Hopefully we can get three points tomorrow and give everyone involved with the club a lift which we in great need of.

Good luck to Mullins - let's hope everyone gets behind the lads tomorrow.

I agree if he helps us go up who cares. We can sign the younger players next season hopefully.

I know someone who knows someone at the club and they said Conlon has left! Yipee! Although that still leaves us with only 3 strikers, so maybe we could still sign a younger one too?

Come on city!

35 years of age. Bit young for City isnt he.

We've been crying out for something different up front for weeks yet weve replaced Conlon with someone very much in the same mold as him. Why are teams like Exeter snapping up 23 years olds from Charlton with a hunger for the game like Fleetwood has, Wycombe singing Chelsea youngsters etc and City are stil ldoing their bit to help the aged. He's Accringtons most successful scorer yet they don't even want him.

Hope i'm proved wrong but the guys been at Accrington Stanley most of his career. Does that not say it all.

He may have been hardworking, but his job was a striker, and his conversion rate per chance was poor.

He was better defending corners - that to me says it all.

I'd go one further and say he was a let down just like McClaren, Bullock, Lee, Boulding, Clarke & Arnison - that's where the budget went and for little return, its Mark Lawn & Julian Rhodes i feel sorry for.

The above names individuals should give their wages back and lets start again, i'd sack the lot in the summer, promotion or not. Invest the money in Furman & Law, plus some other talent, not wannabe has beens. Still learning is Stuart and this is just part of the process, he won't make the same mistakes next season.

Don't know where I stand on this one. With Baz going, I sincerely hope McCall is targeting another striker. What did you say?? We have already done so?? Who?? You don't mean Mullin do you?? Ha ha.

No, seriously I hope Mullin gets the goals we need to fire us to promotion or at least create chances for others with his workrate and physical presence. He can't be any worse than Baz in that respect!

However, somebody above suggested he had a decent record in this league. Not actually true. Most of his goals were scored when Stanley were non-league.

For the record, he has played a total of 38 league games (and 2 cup games) this season, scoring just 8 goals. It is 11 games since his last goal. Hardly impressive reading.

That said, I don't really know much about him, so won't judge him on stats alone. I just hope his poor scoring form has more to do with Stanley not creating chances for him. Well here's hoping anyway!

If so i seem to remember him having a very good game against us and ran Lee and Clarke all over, and before anybody else says it, I know, most srikers have run Lee and Clarke ragged this saeson!!
I know he's not ideal and i agree we should have been looking at the likes of Fleetwood from Charlton and the kid from Chelsea but like O'Grady lets see him kick a ball before he gets slated!!
Whoever is out scouting players for City these days really should resign out of embarrassment.
I can see a big win tomorow but for me it will just paper over the ever increasing cracks at VP.
By they way, we are so lucky to have people like Lawn and Rhodes who are willing to stump up large amounts of cash in the current financial climate and they should be applauded tomorow, thank you Mark and Julian.

By they way, we are so lucky to have people like Lawn and Rhodes who are willing to stump up large amounts of cash in the current financial climate and they should be applauded tomorow, thank you Mark and Julian. To you and Nash.

They have let him go because their season is over and they can save (or make) a smalll amount of cash on the transaction.

We did it with Waddle, Beagrie and Windass in the past - does that mean that they were all rubbish too?

There is also a distinct possibility that McCall has decided that Baz had to go because of whatever happened last week so he has looked for a direct replacement.

Good luck to Baz. Not the greatest finisher and apart from whatever he got up to last week I think he has tried his best for City.

Waddle, Beagrie and Windass were all proven quality at a higher level so that arguments already flawed. Secondly its reported from Stuart and the board that we were trying to bring someone else in so if he's in cos where letting Conlon go then in essense we still havent bought anybody in.

As for letting him go cos their season is over, so are many League 1, and Championships teams so why not snap up someone from their with like Beagrie, Waddle and Windass have proven quality.

Because they cost more money and we might not have any spare cash. As ou will note, Lawn is having to put cash into the club just to clear debt.

The argument is not flawed. It is all relative. Mullin is a valued player to Acc Stan but it doesn't matter what happens to them for the rest of the season. It was the same for us when we let our better players go short-term (or in Waddle's case we just cashed in) to get the cash in. I have no idea whether this will be a good signing or not as only time will tell. I'm not going to start slagging off the manager before the guy has put his short on though.

Either way, just because Mullin is 35 doesn't make him rubbish. You probably know absolutely nothing about him so why don't you just watch him play and then make your mind up.

i think this looks like a good signing. i understand that not many of the fans like conlon and for last season and games this season i can understand.

my problem is really the people who say he doesnt score enough goals. well if that is the case then neither does boulding and thorne and to be fair boulding has played more than baz. can someone just explain then why boulding does not really get slated.

i will miss baz i agree with one of the above posts that baz was a cult hero and it did lift the team when he came on. no doubt about it. he wasnt a good starter but over the years look at the strike forces of bradford.

league one seasons windass got all the goals the other strikers didnt even score 6 or 7 and to be fair to baz hes scored 12. andrew cooke scored four, steve claridge score four, dele adebola score about 4 do you want me to keep going. im not having a go at people for being glad that baz has gone but i would just like people to think about it a little more

my team for tummoz

evans
arnison
obrian
clarke
bower(i would never of let him go)
brandon
gillespy
law
furman
mullin
boulding

Bench
ainge
jones
colbeck
r,boulding
bullock

3 nil win

good look to baz hope things go well at cod heads and good look to mullin lets hope people dont right him off just like ogrady

I do remember Mullin from games against Stanley, and to be fair he looked a decent target man for this league.

It looks like he's been brought in as a direct replacement for Conlon, who I'm presuming Stuart must view their position at the club as untenable, after the indiscretions of last week.

The only problem with this is that I believe that a club is only allowed 5 loan players in their matchday squad of 16, and we still need another striker.

Add Mullin to the likes of Rehmann, Furman, Law, Jones then we already have 5. We are therefore highly unlikely to bring in another loan player, and leave 1 of the above out of the matchday squad, yet still pay their wages.

The only other option would be to sign a player until the end of the season, who's contract had been cancelled.

Our need for another striker will be more than illustrated today, with Thorne being injured, and us only having Mullin and Boulding as our attacking options. Surely we need another forward who can come off the bench, in an attempt to try and turn a game if we are behind.

A more sensible option would've been to patch up the differences with Conlon, and bring another striker in on loan, leaving us with 4 players vying for that position, thus giving us plenty of options.
