Guiseley 3, Kendal Town 2
A penultimate-minute equaliser seemed to have robbed Guiseley of a home victory over one of the seven clubs above them but an injury-time winner claimed all three points.
The Nethermoor hero was James Hanson, who lashed in a left-foot shot from an Adam Muller cross as the players refused to let their heads drop. It would have been easy for them to settle for a draw after Kendal’s late leveller.
It was a close contest, disrupted as a spectacle by the vicious winds as most of the weekend fixtures were.
Overall, Guiseley created the lion’s share of the scoring opportunities so, arguably, it was a deserved win.
They took the lead midway through the first half and it was Hanson who was credited with the assist. The big striker’s determination led to Chris Davey netting a shot.
Just three minutes later, the visitors were level after skipper Ryan Crossley was guilty of a foul in the area. Michael Cole stepped forward and converted the penalty.
A string of chances followed with Simeon Bambrook, Jez Fitzgerald and Hanson all involved before the Lions regained the lead.
A corner ten minutes from time was delivered deep by Michael Roddy and headed back into the danger zone by Fitzgerald for Crossley to nod home.
Another corner for Guiseley, in the 89th minute, led to a counter attack by Kendal and Lee Mulvaney scored.
The home players never gave up and their determination was rewarded by Hanson’s late winner.
