Chris Nero admits frozen pitches have only served to warm up the Bulls’ appetite for Super League’s kick-off.

They got off to a rare and annoying false start when Sunday’s opening match at Harlequins was postponed due to an iced-over Twickenham Stoop.

Australian centre Nero concedes it proved a major downer after all the preparation and anticipation following more than three months' solid training.

But now he and the Bradford squad are simply turning all their attentions to Hull KR’s visit this weekend.

“There’s no doubt, it was pretty frustrating,” admitted the former Huddersfield Giant.

“Everyone was ready to get going. Your whole week gradually builds up to that point where you’re playing the game at the end of it so it’s a big let-down when you’re told it’s off.

“You just have to get on working towards the next game though and that’s what we’ve done with Hull KR coming up.

“We got straight back into training and everyone’s really itching towards that match now.”

One person who is making the most of the snow is Steve Menzies.

Unlike Nero, who has been in England for five years, sights of the white stuff is relatively new to the former Manly star.

“He’s just loving it!” said Nero. “He thinks it’s the best thing ever and it’s all a real novelty still.

“He’s quite amused by it all and sees it as all part of the experience of moving over here.”

Menzies should now make his Super League debut on home turf, even if Odsal did look like a “snowfield” yesterday. “You have to wonder if it will go ahead this weekend too,” said Nero.

“But we’re all working as if it’s going to happen and all hope it does.

“Hull KR will be a tough test. They have a pretty talented squad that’s been together a couple of seasons now and they’ve added to it.

“I think they’ll be one of the sides pushing up there but we’ve got to concentrate more on ourselves.

“They’re definitely going to be a tough side but we’re pretty confident in what we can do.”

Rovers were boosted yesterday when star stand-off Paul Cooke was told he hadn’t broken a wrist after damaging it in Friday’s 18-16 friendly win over Salford.

However, it is swollen and sore so he is facing a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s match-up.

Rovers will definitely be without winger Daniel Fitzhenry (groin) and prop Scott Wheeldon is doubtful because of his own wrist injury.

The Bulls, though, are in good shape, with Nero looking particularly impressive in their recent friendly at Whitehaven.

“It’s always good to get a good hit-out under your belt early on but what happened up there is nothing to get carried away with,” he insisted.

“It was a good confidence-builder for me but I’m not getting too drawn in by my performance at Whitehaven.

“As a squad, we’re pretty confident in everything we’ve been doing and everyone is a pretty fit and healthy, barring Lynchy.

“We’re just going about our business and looking forward to getting underway properly now.”
