HEWENDEN AC
Last week’s pike match was fished in good but cold conditions.
Mick Butler drew the flyer again on peg eight, taking full advantage with fish to 19lb 10oz on dead roach and lamprey for a total of 31lb 1oz. Results: 1 M Butler 31lb 1oz (peg eight); 2 I King 12lb 10oz (peg 22, roach).
It has been brought to our attention that some pike anglers are still using inadequate line as plugs and traces have been found with weak line attached.
We have decided 12lb line should be a minimum requirement from now on.Our watchers have been made aware of this and may check so please do not be offended. As usual, a small minority spoils it for us all.
The draw for this Sunday’s match is 9am in the car park.
LISTERHILLS AA
The Ian Smith Memorial match on the canal at Armley attracted an entry of 71. The winner was P Cryer with 9lb 5oz of roach ahead of runner-up K James with 8lb 14oz, including a bream of over 7lb. A total of £164 was raised for the British Heart Foundation. Catches were low in the match at Pilley’s Dam. E Harrison required only 1lb 2oz to secure first place. Runners-up were D Jackson and W Barker. The draw for tomorrow’s open match at Rodley is at 9am by the bridge. The following match is on the Aire and Calder Navigation on Sunday, October 19. KL TACKLE
Sunday’s challenge match against Eccleshill AS at Raygill was won by Eccleshill’s Lee Helliwell with 32lb 11oz. Other results: 2 Andy Hollins (KL) 15lb 9oz, 3 Neil Harris (KL) 14lb 9oz. KL Tackle won the competition over the two legs with a comfortable six-point gap. The Eccleshill team seemed to struggle with the skill and finesse required at this tricky venue. Not even their veteran captain Steve Hawkins could save them from defeat. Drawing one of the lake’s hot pegs, Hawkins could only manage 1lb 4oz, leaving him last on the day. The Challenge shield is currently being engraved and will be on show in KL Tackle’s second trophy cabinet. We thank Dave and the team from Eccleshill for entering and wish them better luck next year. The first match of the KL Winter League is on Sunday at Tom’s pond, Otley (draw 9am).
KEIGHLEY AC
The committee and members of Keighley Angling Club wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the wife and family of one of our members, Alan Shaw, who passed away this week. Alan has in the past raised hundreds of pounds for the Royal British Legion Keighley branch with his fishing on the canal. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
WASHBURN VALLEY
Catch details for week ending October 5 – Day ticket: Fewston 20, Swinsty 8. Total fish caught: Fewston 31, Swinsty 16. Average per rod: Feston 1.6, Swinsty 2.0. The heaviest fish caught was a 5lb 1oz rainbow trout by Ian Teal using PTN. Fewston and Swinsty: Difficult as more rain kept water levels high. Bigger fish now feeding on fry and nymph in shallower water which explains why 23 per cent of fish caught this week were over 3lb. Thruscross: Closed season.
