Cleckheaton 27, Beverley 13
Cleckheaton grew in confidence to run out deserved winners after an unpromising start.
After an early penalty award under the posts was squandered when the hosts turned over possession, Mike Kilgannon made them pay by scoring for Beverley with a penalty while influential Cleck No 8 Edu Hanekom was being helped from the field with a hamstring injury.
Ross Hayden levelled the scores with a penalty and the half was brought to life by a Ryan Duckett try following an accurate cross kick by Hayden, who also converted.
After Cleck skipper Craig Rika received a yellow card, Beverley scored a good try when full back Freddie Oakley finished wide out.
Cleckheaton took the upper hand in the second half with two excellent tries. Following a slick handling movement, player-coach Doug Trivella crossed and then Zak Hill scored the try of the match with a 60-metre effort which involved both speed and strength.
Ben Wade also crossed for Cleck before Scott Cameron scored a late consolation for Beverley.
