Striker James Hanson almost made a clean sweep of the awards at Guiseley's presentation evening and assistant manager Wayne Benn felt it was a fitting end to the young forward's season.

Before the awards were known, Benn went on record as saying that had Hanson not suffered an injury in the third from last game then Guiseley could have earned the point they needed to leapfrog Buxton and make the play-offs in the UniBond Premier Division.

"It was great to see James picking up the player of the year, the supporters' player of the year and the leading scorer awards," said Benn this week.

"To be honest it was a no-brainer, it couldn't have been anyone else really. Simon Sturdy did well over the season and got a lot of votes but James certainly deserved both awards and obviously was our leading marksman.

"The injury to James certainly made a difference to our run-in. We missed him, but then any team in our league would miss someone of his quality. For a 20-year-old to get 25 goals at this level is a great achievement.

"The trouble was that not enough chipped in with ten or 15 from other areas. That is something we will address in the close season. We have got to get more quality in.

"We all know goals win games and when James wasn't playing we weren't as potent as we should have been."

The only other winner, apart from man of the moment Hanson, at the presentation evening was Aron Wilford, who won the fair play award.
