Furious McCall reads the riot act

Fuming Stuart McCall today rounded on his misfiring players and demanded to know: "Do you really want to be here?"

As he picked through the wreckage of a fourth home loss in five games, the City chief admitted: "I wish the season would end now."

Maybe they don’t want to be here. They tell me they do but keep performing like that as individuals then they won’t be

Stuart McCall

McCall was livid with yet another no-show from his side as they slumped 2-1 against second-from-bottom Mansfield.

And he warned his squad, most of whom are out of contract in June, that his patience has run out.

McCall blasted: "There were five or six players out there who's contracts are up in the summer. Performances like that only make my job easier.

"The ball is in their court. If they are selected, they've got to go out and show they want to be here next season.

"Maybe they don't want to be here. They tell me they do but keep performing like that as individuals then they won't be.

"It's draining saying the same things. I was in the dressing room for 30 minutes afterwards but it's hard to know what to tell them; it's deja-vu.

"But my job is to provide the answers and this season can't finish quick enough for me so I can get to work in the summer and bring players in."

City remain stuck in mid-table with ten games to go of a campaign that McCall has written off. He is already planning ahead to next season when fans can expect major changes in personnel.

"I hate having nothing to play for and that will be the case now," he added. "It's been such a disappointing season.

"A victory on Saturday could have lifted us into the top half but it's as if we don't want to take that step up. There were too many under-performers yet again.

"We can't keep putting in performances like that at home. The fans keep turning out and they are as frustrated as me.

"There are times I wish I could get out there and do something about it myself. But the only time I will be able to do that is in the summer.

"It's a sad thing to say but the end of the season can't come quick enough for me."

Absolutely disgusting display. A massive clearout required in the summer if we are to challenge, no doubt about it.

Good article but why has that published earlier been extracetd from the web site--was it because Simon Parker directly commented on the lack of effort displayed by a player who had just been given a 3 year contract. Was the article pulled for any other reason and replaced with this article which is totally bland and only reports that which was said and does not express the opinion of the journalist, If it has been pulled because of the criticism levelled by Simon Parker at this particular player's attitude then it is yet another bad day for free expression of speech.

I commented on that report and that has disappeared too. For the record I stated that SP was effectively stating what I had said a few weeks ago about players being given extended contracts and then doing nothing to justify the faith placed in them by the award of such a contract.

As a wholesale clear out is going to happen perhaps SM should also say to the players on contracts beyond this season that they are not immune from being loaned out or, if they refuse to go, being sat on the bench each and every game, with no possibility of being called on to play. A few cold wet dreary nights next winter across the Pennines may shake them out of the comfort zone afforded by extended contracts!!

Question to Stuart Saturday after the game.......
How many of those players will be here next year? answer....Er probably none on that performance!
question.......But you brought a lot of these players in didnt you? answer..... They just didnt want to play!
Question......Why do the players struggle for motivation? answer......after 20 seconds or so......I dont know!

Now Im sure Stuart wanted to take a swing at me! (frankly the feeling was mutual)
But he hasnt a clue, and its a great shame, but we will be in the same state next year cos Stuart doesnt know what to do.
My feeling is Stuart will come out this week or next and demand money to be spent!! Which will pass the buck over to the owners!!
So you have been warned Mr Lawn!!

SM has again publicly lambasted his players--- do I detect from the abject performances now being put in by most players that he and WJ have "lost the dressing room"

good call Shaun-- you are going to get slated for it!

"There are times I wish I could get out there and do something about it myself. But the only time I will be able to do that is in the summer.

SM--I'll give you a clue as to where to start given that there is nothing to play for--- you have, of course, concluded we are not going to get drawn into a relegation battle.its possible but unlikley!!

ok--one simple step is this: recall all the youngsters you have out on loan and select them to play- loan players here at present should be returned en bloc-- no doubt you will have to spend some time on the phone to off load them back from whence they came.

all the players on top wages have on the bench. At half time those players fully stripped off should go through a vigorous 15 training routine.

At the end of the game those same players plus those who played should go through another vigourous routine--not just a warm down.

That procedure should continue from now until the end of the season--home and away.

remember PAUL JEWEL-- the humiliation of players at CREWE following a first half disaster!!!

Has your computer gone on the blink? The report is still there and the player singled out is that workaholic Omar Daley. Frankly for all his speed, the end product is poor. The only ones from Saturday I'd like to see wearing the shirt next season are Thorne, Colbeck, Heck. Fringe players Nix, Colbeck and Williams. Love to have that Boulding though - but it won't happen. We can't afford him.

Have a clear out end of season bring in a new lot of free signings next season result anouther poor season,City need to spend money on quality players. Time Lawn dipped his hand in his pocket for mcCall to spend or maybe take out a loan to buy back valley parade which would free up £300,000 a year some of which could be given to McCall, and the rest could go to paying of the loan.

Don't start arguing about the board and commitment now. I have had 2 days to reflect on that shambles on Saturday. Is Still think it ranks up there with the Accrington game, but we have to move on to the next game now.
Tyker - Good call... "ok--one simple step is this: recall all the youngsters you have out on loan and select them to play- loan players here at present should be returned en bloc-- no doubt you will have to spend some time on the phone to off load them back from whence they came.

On Saturday one thing became clear. The only decent Defender was TJ. Hecky, Williams, Wetherall - Total waste of space.

Midfield was a sham. Evans should have played his last game. Johnson - didn't turn up. Rhodes - Lack of confidence after a bad game a few weeks ago, Colbeck ditto Rhodes. Conlon - Good goal mate, but shocking poerformance. Thorne in our side - no thanks. Overpaid and not interested.

Topp - nice touches when he got the ball, shame his shot flew in to the Carlsberg bar!! (Was it just me or did Johnson not want to pass him the ball??) OMAR - Enuf already said.

I would get young Medley back in on the left, and Topp on the right. No choice but to leave Thorne and Conlon up front (For this season anyway). I would honestly show how much I mean business by asking DW to step down as from now as Captain, and then probably start to sub off for latter parts of games. Riht back is a worry, as is left at times. Bully will bring stability back in to the middle when he's fit again. Nix in for Evans.

Don't start arguing about the board and commitment now. I have had 2 days to reflect on that shambles on Saturday. Is Still think it ranks up there with the Accrington game, but we have to move on to the next game now.
Tyker - Good call... "ok--one simple step is this: recall all the youngsters you have out on loan and select them to play- loan players here at present should be returned en bloc-- no doubt you will have to spend some time on the phone to off load them back from whence they came.
remember PAUL JEWEL-- the humiliation of players at CREWE following a first half disaster!!!"

£ 3m might sound a lot of money but if you look at what some of the top players are earning these days it really is not, Frank Lampard could buy the ground and still have a couple mill left at on a years earnings,so surely it would not dent the pockets of two buissnessmen to much. And in the long run they would be saving 3ook a week.

I would suggest that Mr. Lawn comes out and outlines his palns for the summer. You can't expect people to buy season tickets by June if they don't know if they will be watching the same cr*p next year as well.

buying the ground and saving the club 300K a year sounds great but is in fact a non starter for a long time to come.

Firstly there is no communications with the pension fund at present:secondly the asking price may be a lot more than £3m. Thirdly the director's do not have the personal cash to do that so would probably need to personally borrow the cash. With the credit squeeze in full flow and likely to get worse given what's happened in the USA over the week end who is going to lend the director's the money and at what sort of interest rates?

So even if the ground was bought back there would not be the serviceable cash available as the interest on the loans would effectively have to be paid by the club.In the current circumstances that interest on such a loan to buy a commercial property whose only tenant is not financially sound may well be more than the rent currently being paid.

As I have stated many a time the club is in dire financial straits and needs early season ticket sales to gather cash in so that it can to eke out income over the season rather than the club having the uncertainty of variable income week in week out.

HOWEVER-- the strategy can only work if the product for which the tickets are being sold is good. at present it is not!!

I accept that the season hasn't met up to peoples expectations but I see the people who were quiet when we were winning a few have appeared again!!!

Surely all city fans want was is best for the club....so why slate SM and Jakes when all they are doing is being honest and truthfull about everything?
They accept that it hasn't been great but i can gaurantee yout they will both be working hard over the summer to improve things going forward as will Lawn and Rhodes.

Rather then be negative lets try and look forward to a promising season next term......or we could all be as miserbale as people like shaun and just slate everybody involved with city.

SM loves city as much as us fans do so lets try getting behind him!!

I see a few people asking for fans to be more positive but thats impossible to do.

Ive always tried to be positive about Bradford , but Saturday I have never seen such a terrible level of football , nobody looked interested , nobody on that basis was fit to wear the claret and amber and the only positive I can think of , is that the season will soon be over.

I just hope in the summer Stu can turn things round and find players who are 110% commited.

To me Paul Evans has played his last game in a city shirt , swearing at the crowd who were on his back is not acceptable , indeed nor was his performace.

Saturday again showed what passionless football City are capable of and if we dont pull our socks up the last few weeks of the season could become very uncomfortable.

That procedure should continue from now until the end of the season--home and away. remember PAUL JEWEL-- the humiliation of players at CREWE following a first half disaster!!!

Arron from Albion Sports on a Sunday? Quality player when he has not been partying all night! I have said this before and it is still the case, I could select a team of 11 players from the Braford Sunday Alliance and if their fitness levels were as good as the pro's , they would either beat or at least give a performance against the shower of sh*t we have at the moment. Maybe the scouts should get out and watch top flight amateur games on Saturdays and Sundays for cheap players that are better then what we have, players that were missed as kids because their parents weren't asss kissers!

Jewell is a tough guy McCall is too nice a lad and his sidekick is totally wooden.
surely these are the things ge will learn though....i believe next season will be much different!

At half time those players fully stripped off should go through a vigorous 15 training routine.
Spot on chris......some of the amatuer players who never made it cos their parents weren;t willing to kiss ****!!!

I believe a team of the best amatuers in and around Bradford would beat the current team if they were commited and fit.

I'm not normally negative but asm actually lookign forward to the end of the season now!!

Me too Gman, can't wait for it to end. I can't comment on Saturday, I was lucky enough to have got a last minute invite paintballing so didnt have to see it. I was suffering yesterday though!

Back on to the other debate. One good example of two players that came through junior level at the same time were Chris Brandon and Craig Midgeley. What a joke that was when City released Chris Brandon who was by far the better player all because Midgeley's father was a kiss ****. He turned out to be player of the season at Torquay and Chesterfield before he signed for Huddersfield.

My point is there are a hell of alot of good players at semi pro and amateur level that would be good enough to get in this poor side we have. To name a few, Mark Bett of Buttershaw on a Sunday, Saturdays just moved from Guisley to BPA. Arron Heywood already mentioned. These 2 would do better then the likes of Conlon. Steve Garner of Mill Lane on a Sunday, has been in the past released by Middlesborough and Huddersfield (surely worth a look), would do better then Penford..There are a number of excellent players that for one reason or another have not been in the right place at the right time and is probably the only reson they are not getting paid for what they love doing and for the team they would love to play for..

JUST-IN WROTE:-

Aaran Heywood has just signed for Harrogate Railway.

CHRIS WROTE:- A quality player if he has not been partying all night.

If you are serious JUST-IN. Please send an E-Mail recommendation to the Club. They will have him watched, and SM lives nearby. If he is good then he will be given a 'TRIAL' at the Club.

If you are correct CHRIS; Then please send an E-Mail to ANY Premier Club e.g. Man U., Chelsea etc.. Where he could fit in with their Christmas Partying/ Binge Drinking/ Abuse of their Celebrity 'WAG'S' ETC.

Seriously there are some very knowldgeable Supporters, who are genuine regular 'Posters of Comments' on these 'City' reports.

IF any GENUINE SUPPORTER, is aware of any player worth watching. Then please inform Bradford City AFC. Only genuine recommendations will be assessed. Bear in mind the cost of obtaining players their wages/etc. etc.

Yes, we would all like 'ROONEY & RONALDO' etc.
But 'City' would benefit greatley from players that are talented and ambitious, and want to be discovered. Paticularly from 'Grass Roots' level.

SM's Scouting Network would welcome your genuine recommendations for the good of the Club, and arrange for them to be 'Watched'.

There is some quality players playing in the Northern Alliance Under 19 league. Players who have experience at professional clubs and who slipped through the net and are just waiting for a confidence building approach!!

Can't help thinking that a few more defeats this season will be beneficial in the long run. A few victories may just convince McCall to offer extended contracts to the likes of Johnson, Williams, Conlon et al. At least a few drubbings will surely mean we shall never have to witness such gutless performances ever again after this season.

Saturday was another poor game and City never got out of the blocks. The starting 11 were not good enough, Johnson for all his endeavour is not up to it. Evans has been just as bad all season. Williams, sorry but if yo want to keep your place in the team it should be on merit and Saturday summed up why Starosta (who himself is average) found it so easy to take your place.
For all the Omar Daley knockers you must realise that City play far better with him in the team than not. Has it occurred that he is the only player across the middle who can pass a ball - try asking Topp in his rare moments on the pitch who he can actually play football with.

Finally get real about our position and get off SM's and WJ's back in the process - we have got the players we have because our board who haven't got enough cash to invest in City properly are signing players on crap wages because that is all they can afford. Chris Brandon incidentally is a City fan but won't contemplate the drop in wages that City would demand.

Should I be surprised by the stuff I read on here - NO! It is no different to the garbage I have been hearing at matches for 50 years by a tiny element of fans who just like to have a moan and clearly know very little about football.

When Mansfield came forward, they came forward with pace & it looked like they was gonna score everytime.
Where has our pace gone ?
We used to attack teams using pace, saturday looked like they had all been on the beer the night before & they just couldnt be bothered to run & at least keep up with the game.
There wasnt a Bradford player on the pitch worthy of a contract in the summer, send the loan players home & lets play with the youngsters we have, im sure they will give 100% to try stay in the first team.
We have too many who play on a weekend just for the wage, we need players who want to play for the club & for themselves. Get rid of the shower of s**t we have & start again. Only whem Stuart has a team of players he has chose can he be judged as a manager, i do hope he can sort this out for next season.

Cant help but agree with you bud.....i can live with losing as long as i see players wanting to wear the shirt...it hurts at the minute!!!
What i cant understand though is these players will not have a career in football if they dont succeed in Div 4....surely you'd expect them to give everything not justr for the club but for themsleves to!!!!
I know if my career was on the line I would be sweating blood in order to succeed!!!
They'll be working in call centres next year..lol

Mcall should make the players read these comments, they would know what the Bradford fans think of them & the performances they give.
It is us that pay the wages to this lazy spineless bunch, i know the tickets are cheap, but i dont feel im getting my money`s worth watching rubbish like saturday.
I dont expect Bradford to win every match, but if they could at least give 100% then nothing more can be asked of them.

unfortunatly i couldnlt make it on saturday due to illness....were we really that bad?? listened to bits on the radio but thats more frustrating then actually watching the game!!!

Chris Brandon may have no choice but to take a pay cut, in footballing terms he is getting on a bit, Im sure is contract is up this summer and at present not a guaranteed starter every week. I know McCall wanted him in the summer but while Town wanted a fee it was not going to happen. There will be alot of changes in the summer there is no doubt, to have Chris on one wing and Gary Thompson of Wycombe on the other will be good!! and something I can see happening.
From the horses mouth he was wanted by Nicky Law when he was in charge but there was no money available to Nicky.

I would have thought the Titanic brigade would at least have the good grace to at least acknowledge the fact that as usuall I was right all along.
Instead we have the "cant wait for the season to end" rant....like its going to get better next year?? And Stan Jessop who seems to be facinated in a young boys testicals.....You cant make this stuff up!!

You are truelly pathetic gman.....You still wont say a word against McCall!! Even when he admits he hasnt a clue.... gman...YOU DISGUST ME!
cos i'm intellignet enough to realise and i believe none of this is his fault...if we are in the same position as this at this stage next season then i will.

I'm sick of reading all the comments slating Stuart on here. Yes, he brought a lot of the players in last summer - but who was left by the time he was appointed? Yes, one or two players have been complete sheight since being given contracts, but they were doing well before that which had everyone saying they should be signed up.

Saturday was the worst city performance I can remember seeing in 25 years, there may have been worse but they are long since forgotten. I don't beleive it was down to the whole team though, I put it down to the non-existent central midfield. Where were they? I hate posting anything negative but Eddie Johnson is vastly over-rated and Paul Evans should have played his last minutes in a city shirt.

Add my voice to the clamour for the young lads to be given a chance, then we will maybe get a glimpse of next season and possibly the long-term future.

I'm disappointed we lost on saturday. We had some pressure on them in the 2nd half. How would we have felt or what would have been said if we had managed to draw.

Shaun will have dribbled on about how inept the manager is and how he is disgusted by anyone that won't boost his ego. Just in would have complained about Jake's pointing.

Its the same every week. Bad performance on the pitch = rubbish posts from plonkers on this site.

Good performance = some constructive and decent discussion.

Instead of pointing fingers, try and work out why two hundred fans in the worst stand at valley parade sounded more passionate than 13,000 'true' fans.

WE DISGUST ME.

Still City Till I Die tho!

Ditto. If you can't be bothered to play your heart out to keep/earn a job then you don't deserve one. Going nowhere this season, blood the kids, drop the wasters and don't give them a chance to earn a spot elsewhere after some of their 'couldn't care less' performances this season. Did they really think because they are at the biggest club in the division they would win games on that alone, cos that is what it has looked like at some games this season.

My take on SM this season is fairly simple, speaks far too often from the heart & not the head, shown his self to be tactically naive on more than one occasion this season.

Having said all that I am of the opinion of lets see what action SM takes to remedy the situation in the close season & beyond.

If next season pans out to be a similar season to this, then no doubt Shaun will be congratulated from an army of new found friends !
