Celts win goes down like Led balloon

While Farsley were spoiling Stafford's party they were preparing one of their own as they secured a fine victory that lifted them out of the Blue Square Premier relegation zone.

The day should have been all about Rangers as the television cameras were there to capture former England international and Black Country legend Steve Bull on his first game in charge.

Stafford's most famous ex-player - former Bradford, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore - was there. So too was their most famous fan - Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant - and throngs of supporters wearing Wolves shirts in honour of Bull.

But most of the 1,800-plus crowd dribbled away from the ground with their heads bowed wondering what went wrong, while Celts followers - like their players and staff - left feeling as though they were walking on air.

A goal in each half was enough for Farsley to earn their deserved win over the stunned home side.

The Celts broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Steve Torpey converted an Andy Watson cross with a stooping header.

Then just before the hour a break from Damien Reeves was ended by a foul and Rory Prendergast's free-kick struck the wall and was deflected for a corner.

The flag-kick caused the home defence problems and Amjad Iqbal was brought down after controlling the ball, with Dominic Krief slotting in the resulting penalty.
