City today delivered an early Christmas present to fans by announcing a price freeze on season-tickets for NEXT term.

For the next month, supporters can buy a new season-ticket at the current rock- bottom figure of only £138.

It’s great to see people turning up in such numbers every game and bringing back the atmosphere to the club. We wanted to reward that backing. So from December 1 to 31, we are giving people the chance to purchase a new season-ticket early at the same low price as now

Mark Lawn

"It's our way of saying thank you to the fans for their loyalty," announced joint-chairman Mark Lawn.

"Julian Rhodes and myself have been amazed by the fantastic level of support the team are getting this season.

"It's great to see people turning up in such numbers every game and bringing back the atmosphere to the club.

"We wanted to reward that backing. So from December 1 to 31, we are giving people the chance to purchase a new season-ticket early at the same low price as now.

"Let's face it, £138 doesn't buy a lot when you are searching for that special Christmas present.

"It's exactly the same generous deal as before so youngsters aged 11 to 15 will pay £69 again and the under-11s get in free, up to a maximum of two per adult season-ticket holder."

Fans who snap up the December-only offer will be given a voucher at Valley Parade which will be swapped for a season-ticket when they are officially launched in the summer.

Rhodes set a 10,000 target when he unveiled the current season-ticket deal in March and was staggered to see the final figure break the 12,000 barrier - a total swelled dramatically when Stuart McCall came back as boss.

City's average attendance figure of 13,670 is the best in League Two by far. Leaders MK Dons are more than 5,000 behind in second.

Only Leeds and Nottingham Forest attract more fans to League One games and the Valley Parade crowds beat nine clubs in the Champion-ship.

Lawn is urging City supporters to turn out in force for Saturday's FA Cup second-round clash with Tranmere.

The League One opponents have laid on free coaches for their supporters and are expecting up to 1,500 fans to make the journey from the Wirral - the biggest away following seen at Valley Parade since Easter Monday, when Oldham brought 2,205.

Lawn said: "I'm sure they are going to be very vocal and we don't want our supporters to be out-shouted. So we hope that as many fans as possible can make it to the game to cheer the lads on.

"If they want us to go through and maybe pull a big club in round three, then I'd encourage people to come down in numbers and do their bit."

Admission on Saturday is £15 for adults, £10 senior citizens and £5 under-16s. Non-members can use the Bantams Bar and Hendrie Suite facilities for an extra £5 charge.

Tickets for unreserved seating can be bought in advance, although supporters can pay on the day at the turnstiles.

while I think this is a great idea, December is traditionally a very expensive month for everyone. why is the offer only available then? It seems unfair to me. Does this mean that season tickets will go up for next season?
I'm sorry, but it seems that only people fortunate enough to be able to afford Xmas and season tickets on the side will be rewarded by this offer. £138 is still a lot of money, especially if you're a family buying more than one. Surely they could have run this offer in Jan or Feb when the expense of Xmas is out of the way? It doesn't seem fair that people less fortunate are going to miss out on making a saving and those who can afford it (and probably afford to pay more for their season tickets) are rewarded.

So with around 25% of this season gone the club would like us to stump up for next season already--this smacks of the old travel adverts that used to appear in the new year then were brought forward more and more!!! pre sales to get cash in now!!!

it could be argued that the club is NOW short of cash in which case this scenario is somewhat Richmondesque.

If season tickest are bought now is there any guarantee that the money collected by the club will be ring fenced for use only when next season arises or,as I suspect, is it going into this years funds?

maybe a good idea on the part of the club to get interest going and to get cash in now but--------------- is this just one step too far and actually creating a great big black hole in next season's budget!!!

Jeez theres some negative comments here. It a quite simple concept, its an ideal christmas present for a member of your family OR hopefully you could get someone to buy you one in return. Secondly this offer at christmas, will see the funds hopefully secure wage bills for potential january targets loan or permanent - meaning theres hope that we are really gonna go for it in the new year! Also the money upfront will help the general running of the club until next season. Come on didnt you really think prices were going to increase next year? There rock bottom now added to a little thing called inflation. Beg steal or borrow the money, theres no denying its a great deal for us and a good will gesture by city. Take advantage!

I'm very much in two minds about this offer. Is it just to get some money in early for the transfer window? Will it mean less money for McCall come the summer time? What will the prices be next season if we don't take this offer? Hard to critise too much I suppose but just feel a few more questions need to be answered before I stump up the cash. As JM from Skipton rightly says, December is a killer month finicially, and there is no real reason that I can see not to just wait until April/May and get one then.

Double edged sword as I can see it. Great offer once again, and for that the club can be thanked. Downside is something along the lines of the 25 year offer, if it goes t*ts up befor ethe start of next season are there guarantees in place to protect ordinary people this time, and also not leave the club struggling. As someone said, will the cash be used to bolster this season, or is it just to gauge interest so planning for next season can begin. We aren't a million miles of the play-offs if we put a decent run together, so the cash could be used to make this a bounce back season, and that in itself guarantees a larger payment from the FL, also we then play clubs with better followings so match day revenue increases, it could be used to gamble on success for this season, but if it is failure could well spell doom.

Why do I have to be out of work at this time!!?!!....gutted, I'd happily pay for the season ticket if I had the spare cash, all I can hope is, that on reflection JR & ML decide to re-offer the incentive in March-April, I can remember ML stating in an interview that he was looking to increase the attendance of VP in his projections, and didn't rule out repeating the offer for the following season. IF we make it to the play-offs, and can get ourselves out of this division then surely the only way to do that is to echo what they've done this year? I do think it's a great Xmas present for someone, and yes it might possibly free cash for a push up the league, hopefully the duo have other tricks up their sleeves for investment in the squad in the summer also. scenario:£500,000 + in a high interest account for eight months.outcome: well it's obvious isn't it. so go for it

so around £20000/$30000 in interest less corporation tax :

this implies the money is going to be ring fenced and protected to be used for next season? or is it going to be used this season as some say it should be. We need that to be cleared up--if its to be spent now we have the doomsday situation similar to that created by GR. Maybe those paying ahead would want to pay by credit card or are City still not allowed by the banks to accept the cards or are City not prepared to offer the protection needed by the banks!!!

if it is used for this season has to come out of the budget stream for next season or be guaranteed to be replaced.-- there are no guarantees in life!!
incidentally--just asked my boss to pay me for upto 18 months ahead with no guarantees on my performing or even being with him in 18 months time---- answer is unreportable!!!

I'm sorry, i actually think I'm a more postive fan and don't come on here complaining usually. I just think it's a very unfair time to bring this particular offer out. i appreciate season tickets will go up next season and I have no problem with that, but it seems unfair that those people who are fortunate enough to be able to afford a season ticket at the most expensive time of the year are rewarded with a cheaper deal than those of us who struggle. It's not an attack on richer people, I have no problem with everyone getting a deal, it just doesn't seem fair that others will miss out and pay more.
You only need to listen to the wailing in the news about the cost of Xmas and people running up debts to pay for presents. Given the loyalty of supporters, what’s the likelihood that there will be some fans borrowing money to buy a season ticket now, so that they can the cheaper offer? In the long run it could work out costing loads more but people won’t necessarily see it that way.

I just think the club are being slightly irresponsible and unfair with this offer. If they said season tickets are available now but didn’t put a deadline, or at least put a deadline of say the end of February, that’s fine. But they’re not doing that so people less fortunate either miss out on a valuable saving or risk spending money they don’t have.

Given the loyalty of supporters, whatÂ’s the likelihood that there will be some fans borrowing money to buy a season ticket now, so that they can the cheaper offer? In the long run it could work out costing loads more but people wonÂ’t necessarily see it that way.

I just think the club are being slightly irresponsible and unfair with this offer. If they said season tickets are available now but didnÂ’t put a deadline, or at least put a deadline of say the end of February, thatÂ’s fine. But theyÂ’re not doing that so people less fortunate either miss out on a valuable saving or risk spending money they donÂ’t have.

quote risk spending money they don’t have.

precisely my point from the other side of the equation:

are City going to spend money now to the detriment of the budget later?

if that is so then that simply is a recipe for disaster again and I would not want that.

All I am asking is what are the intentions of the club with the finances they hope to get in--yes its a good deal for those supporters who can afford it but would it be such a great deal if the club spent the money now and then went into administration AGAIN in 12-18 months time.

Just tell us City: what are you going to do with all this cash you are asking supporters to stump up well ahead of time--it is a very simple question and, hopefully, an answer will be quickly issued.

finally-- If I think they are proceeding in a prudent manner with this cash then I will buy but if the money is going to pay debt now or be spent on players etc etc this season then maybe I will wait or pay by credit card!!!

Come on JM, Skipton, it's pretty obvious why there is a December deadline - so the manager can gauge what players to bring in during January with the new money generated.
Perhaps you could ask the football overlords whether they would put the January transfer deadline back a month or so until you could afford it?

The offer's been made so take it or leave it, I doubt you will get such a deal if you wait till the end of the season.

you're missing the point of what I'm saying. Anyway, I hope you're wrong and this money is not for january. Spending next season's budget eight months ahead is desperate and stupid. I'm prepared to take the club at face value when they say it's an offer to reward supporters. I don't think JR would risk quickly getting money in that will be needed later just to sign some players in January. It's a stupid strategy.

Interesting thread. It's natural that we should all fear the worst as we've come so perilously close to closure. Once bitten; twice as bonkers/neurotic etc. It's good therapy!

However, perhaps we shouldn't pretend that it's a good will gesture, but a little creative business thinking by the board. For that we should be glad - assuming that risks are being (at least partially) mitigated. The existing board have already got the club out of a gargantuan financial hole and I assume they are not cretinous enough to fall back into it.

I'll be taking advantage of the offer anyway. I have enough faith that we will not be exposed by this and look forward to supporting Stuart and the lads next season. Anyway, never mind season tickets - a 4-1 away drubbing of Peterboro would be the perfect Xmas tonic...

no tyker, what i'm saying is that monies created through investments ie: banking and/or shares over a period of time will allow the finance director to borrow on the estamated accumalated interest so allowing approx £20,000 to entice at least 2/3 players in the january sales.this is the carrot to which the supporters have the final say.

isn't the monthly direct debit option not a suitable means for the fee to become more affordable. Not sure if it's part of this new deal or not, but worth exploring?

When GR offered his 25 year deal I was one of the first questioning his motives and, despite taking a lot of flak, wss ultimately proved 100% correct.

There may well be an intention to ring fence the proceeds, if so, it's a great idea.

Alternatively, we may have a short term cash flow problem. If so, spending tomorrow's money today spells trouble whether in personal or business life.

SPOT ON

You see I am not moaning just pointing out some home truths which people do not like to hear: there has to be another agenda here--as well as rewarding fans etc -- Did not GR not utter similar statements about rewarding fans for helping push the team up to the premiership?

Unless the money is ring fenced for next season and a guarantee issued accordingly it must be considered that cash is tight and that this is a money raising issue to meet current expenditures or at least expenditures this season. if so there are problems ahead!!

Call me a moaner and a whinger but just remember the phrase--if it looks too good to be true................

Sadly, tyker, like you I have a real feeling of deja vu here.

Would any of these fans pay now for Double Glazing and wait until next August to have it fitted? I don't think so.

There's definitely a touch of the GR's here and I wonder whether this "special offer" is for the benefit of the supporters or the Bank Manager?

ok shawzy yeah i understand that not all fans will be able to afford to buy at this time of year hence why i put on my previous post lawn should state what the price will be next spring and why pay money for a player if there is no cash available also i can see why people may think the club is struggling for money by asking for next seasons cash now after all we never find out what the season ticket will be for the following season until usually march and maybe lawn should outline the purpose of why the price freeze should happen in december but personally i think they are trying to give the fans loyalty works both works and also prices for the two combined season work out at £276 where before lawn came in a season ticket was around the £250 mark so over two season you practically get a season free so think of the postive and not the negatives
as for mark lawn should he read these forums maybe he could enlighten all of us why the deal is only running for december

ok shawzy yeah i understand that not all fans will be able to afford to buy at this time of year hence why i put on my previous post lawn should state what the price will be next spring and why pay money for a player if there is no cash available also i can see why people may think the club is struggling for money by asking for next seasons cash now after all we never find out what the season ticket will be for the following season until usually march and maybe lawn should outline the purpose of why the price freeze should happen in december but personally i think they are trying to give the fans loyalty works both works and also prices for the two combined season work out at £276 where before lawn came in a season ticket was around the £250 mark so over two season you practically get a season free so think of the postive and not the negatives
as for mark lawn should he read these forums maybe he could enlighten all of us why the deal is only running for december

Bah f**king hunbug you miserable set of turds! I don't think anyone was expecting to be able to get £138 season tickets again next season, but we are very lucky fans yet again. Thank you very much JR and ML, I shall be buying and anyone else that doesn't is mad. FFS its only £138, I can spend £80 easily on a night out, so I'll just have a couple of nights in that I would normally have gone out and I get a season of footy. COME ON!!

Call me a moaner and a whinger but just remember the phrase--if it looks too good to be true................
..... it usually is!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't we get a good deal this season, or did I just imagine that?

I heard Lawn on Radio Leeds tonight. He was disgusted by some of the comments he had read/heard regarding the offer. He has personally pledged to guarantee any season tickets sold in December.

From my understanding, they are hoping to sell a certain number of tickets with part of the proceeds used for team strengthening in January. The rest of the money will be used (together with money raised in the Summer) for next season.

I do disagree with some of the comments above regarding 'Loyal City fans will buy' etc. If we all had spare cash, I am sure we would jump at the chance of buying a cheap ticket. However, that is not an option for all. I am lucky that I can afford to renew my tickets for next season, but that isn't possible for all. They shouldn't be castigated just because they don't have the money now.

I hope Lawn and Rhodes offer a similar deal in March/April.

I agree with another post above regarding the standing order method of paying. Can someone contact the club to see if they will allow payment this way or by credit card.

Alternatively, you can withdraw the cash at an ATM from your credit card. Most charge up to 2%, meaning a withdrawal of £140 would cost you just £2.80. The interest you would pay in this, assuming you pay back £20 a month, would set you back less than £15 in total. This means that your season ticket would now cost around £155. Still a bargain????
