The two local sides involved in Northern Counties East Premier Division action yesterday encountered vastly different fortunes, despite both being at home.
LIVERSEDGE were the club celebrating as they enjoyed a handsome 4-1 victory over Mickleover Sports to earn a three-point maximum.
The first half was goalless but Sedge then took the lead from a penalty. Nicky Boshell netted from the spot and, just five minutes later, Mickleover contributed even more by conceding an own goal.
Matthew Biddle tapped in from a Boshell assist to make it 3-0 and Boshell netted his second and Sedge's fourth ten minutes from time, before Tony Law fired in a late consolation.
Meanwhile, ECCLESHILL were beaten 3-1 by Parkgate, one of the teams promoted from the NCE second tier last May.
The Eagles had the best possible start, taking the lead after just 27 seconds when a defender headed a cross high into the air only to see Andy Howland volley into the roof of the net.
The home side had chances to add to their lead but Parkgate hit back to level through a Scott Sommerville 30-yard lob.
The same player slotted in when the referee allowed advantage in a later break by the visitors and the last goal was added deep into injury time, when Glyn Cotton headed home as United pushed for an equaliser.
