Great Britain ace Paul Sykes today revealed the chance to come home and the lure of trophies persuaded him to rejoin the Bulls.

The Harlequins centre has confirmed he will link up with Bradford at the end of the season on a two-year deal.

Sykes returns to Odsal nearly seven years after originally departing for London.

The former Bulls Academy product played 19 times before heading to the capital in search of regular first-team football in 2001.

Sykes, 26, said: "A lot's changed at Bradford since the first time around and I think there's only Paul Deacon and Jamie Langley still there.

"But I'm ready for a fresh challenge and I'm hoping to move back north to win some silverware. Bulls are always challenging and I'm glad I'm going to be a part of that.

"Also, my girlfriend has just given birth to our first child as well and we want to be closer to our family."

The Bulls have paid an undisclosed fee for the Dewsbury-born player, who still had two years left on his deal at Twickenham Stoop.

Goal-kicker Sykes, who replaces NRL-bound Ben Harris, added: "I've never regretted coming down here and it was a great move.

"When I left Bradford they were a championship-winning side and I was just a young lad coming through, so it was hard to get in.

"But going to London improved me. I've played for England, switched from fullback to centre and now represented Great Britain.

"The fact I'm coming back to Bradford says a lot about my game. I'll have to fight for a spot as they have some quality centres but I'm looking forward to joining up with them again."

Boss Steve McNamara reckons he has picked up a rare talent.

"I'm absolutely delighted to have secured an outstanding English centre and thank the board for making the deal possible," he said.

"There's a dearth of English centres in the competition but Paul is on the fringes of the Great Britain squad.

"The fact he's agreed to come back from Harlequins is fantastic news.

"It has another benefit, given new regulations starting next season, because he counts as a homegrown player, having spent four years here at Odsal earlier in his career."

McNamara added: "Paul's a really tough defensive player who runs great lines in attack, is a very good kicker - giving us a left-foot option - and fits perfectly with our ethic of having a much stronger squad next season."
