BULLS stand-in captain Steve Crossley is relishing the opportunity to lead his hometown club out on the field and to what he hopes will be bigger things.

The Bulls continued their rebuild in momentum with a 48-0 victory over North Wales Crusaders, keeping a clean slate for two weeks straight.

Jonny Pownall and Tuoyo Egodo crossed for their first tries for the club, yet Crossley praised the efforts of the whole team to produce such an emphatic performance.

“We’re happy with the performance against North Wales, it’s another step towards building momentum at the right time of the season,” said Crossley.

“There are a few elements we were not happy with, but the huge positive is we have gone two weeks without conceding a single point, that’s a great feeling.

“Even if one person doesn’t do their job, you don’t come away with zero on their scoreline so to see the work-rate in defence and the desire to play this way is great.

“The defensive effort is what allows us to play our expansive style in matches, once we have done the hard work we can enjoy ourselves and score some points.

“Jonny and Tuoyo both scored cracking tries but the real effect has been off the pitch, you need your strongest 13 playing at this stage, they’ve added a level of competition and raised our game.

“I’m really proud to be captaining this club, I think of myself as a natural leader with the way I play, hopefully we can all be part of taking this club to the next level.”

Since their defeat to York City Knights, Bradford have bounced back winning three in-a-row as they bid to finish strong, this weekend Workington Town face the trip to Odsal.

Leon Pryce’s side inflicted the Bulls first defeat back in round six, a narrow 18-17 victory halting Bradford’s strong start to the season.

Crossley insists his side are ready for another strong test from the Cumbrian side, while emphasising the importance of focusing on one game at a time.

“They were the first team to hand us a defeat, they will be looking for an upset and to further their play-off ambitions, we just have to prepare and play our game,” said Crossley

“Workington are one of the big clubs, you expect them to be up near the top, the truth is there are no easy games we need to keep that mentality and fight every minute on the field.

“All the talk of points difference is not something we will focus on, there will be opportunities in games for that, the most important thing is the two points at the end of the game.

“We are taking each game as it comes, no looking beyond the Workington game or who York are playing.

"We have to focus on Workington, what they bring and how we can perform.”
