WE are only going to get better, fitter and stronger is the warning to Guiseley's Vanarama National League North rival from joint-manager Marcus Bignot as his team stopped their early-season rot.

The Lions travel to in-form Leamington on Saturday after two successive draws. They followed by a 1-1 draw with AFC Telford United on Saturday, with the same scoreline at Edgeley Park on Tuesday night against bookies' pre-season title favourites Stockport County.

These first two points of the term put Guiseley second-from-bottom, while seventh-placed Leamington warmed up for Saturday's clash at New Windmill Park with a 2-1 defeat at newly-promoted Hereford on Tuesday.

Bignot says he was encouraged his side's upturn in form over the last two matches after they started the campaign with two successive defeats, adding it also gives his side something to build on.

A change of shape and the upturn in form of his strikeforce, as Bignot started with Kayode Odejayi up front with Kaine Felix and Curtis Morrison up front against Stockport, has also provided him with room for optimism.

Bignot said his side will only improve as the weeks and months of the season progress, but was happy his Lions have shown a greater understanding in their first four games.

He said: "We are a work in progress. We want to get them to play in a certain way and that is going to take time.

"The lads are taking everything on board. We are going to be one of those teams who are only going to get better, get fitter and stronger.

"Tactically, we are going to get better in the weeks and months to come.

"They are all tough games in this division.

"It is not easy coming to Stockport on a Tuesday night under the lights. For us to come away with a point is something to build on.

"There were a lot of encouraging signs from the team against Stockport. It was a good performance with a positive result. It is two games unbeaten for us.

"Our performances are getting better and there is a greater understanding between the players.

"I was really pleased with the Stockport result, as we were not able to prepare for this.

"Our front three gave a really encouraging performance. Teams are judged by their front end.

"We changed the shape and introduced new personnel. One to 11 they were superb. The players on the bench are right behind the boys.

"We are really encouraged by the way we are developing as a group.

"The lads are working their socks off to get fit.

Bignot added he hoped Will Hatfield would shake off an injury after being substituted against Stockport after 39 minutes.
