BULLS coach John Kear has a chilling message for their chief rivals York City Knights with six matches left of the Betfred League One season.

In the wake of the leaders' 46-0 home win over fourth-placed Whitehaven on Saturday, Kear said: "The exciting thing about this team is that we are getting better, and anyone who has watched us over the season will realise that.

"We have added something in the three-quarters in the last few weeks and we have added something in the halves and we are getting better."

The Bulls, who lead York on points difference, have integrated several key new signings recently, such as James Green, Tuoyo Egodo, Jordan Lilley and Jonny Pownall, who made his debut against Whitehaven, and Kear said: "A load of kids have come through the Bradford Academy and we have added to that from outside so it blending pretty well.

"We are looking forward to the last six games as I think that we can get better and better."

The players went outside after the game to be part of the club's post-match barbecue and party, and Kear added: "The lads are bouncing off the ceiling in the dressing room and I think that they could go out there and play again."

Whitehaven gave the Bulls a severe test at the Recreation Ground in June, trailing 21-20 in the closing stages before going down 27-20, and Kear summed up the return fixture by saying: "It was more than a win, it was a really good performance.

"We nilled them, which is always a plus point, because it showed the commitment to defence, especially at the end where I was mystified as to how Whitehaven got up to our end with a little help from their friends.

"They (Bulls players) stuck to their systems and structures and kept doing the things that were working."

His views on the performance was: "It was a lot better than the York one because we were on the back foot for the first half-hour but it is very similar to the last 50 minutes of York and last week (at London Skolars).

"The pleasing thing was that we didn't cough up any soft tries like we did last week, and we showed some good touches with the ball.

"I would just have liked a quicker game, but we knew they would want to stop-start it, and they were allowed to do that.

"We only made two errors in the first half, which stands alongside Sydney City Roosters from this morning on television.

"We got frustrated in the second half but we kept our composure generally."
