CITY completed the signing of striker Eoin Doyle this evening from Championship side Preston for an undisclosed fee – after Charlie Wyke’s move to Sunderland was finally confirmed.

The Dublin-born forward arrives on a two-year deal, having scored 16 goals in 34 outings last season on loan with Oldham.

Wyke joins the Wearsiders on a three-year contract after completing a medical yesterday.

The fee is undisclosed but the T&A understands that the signing will cost Sunderland in the region of £500,000 plus potential add-on payments.

However, it is understood that reports suggesting the deal could be up to a £1million are wide of the mark.

Doyle said: “I am absolutely over the moon to be joining Bradford City and it will be a real honour to represent such a big club.

“I cannot wait to get into training and meet the players.

“I am delighted the deal got done before the transfer window closed because I really want to hit the ground running and get the season off to a flying start here.

“The squad looks very good and I have played with a fair few of the lads in the past.

“I will give everything I have for this club. I will run myself into the ground every week for the team.

“I am already looking forward to running out in front of the fans and I will wear the No 9 shirt with immense pride.”

The 30-year-old first sprung to prominence with Chesterfield, scoring 32 goals in 52 appearances to earn a big-money move to Cardiff City in February 2015.

He had limited opportunities with the Championship Bluebirds, with the player then joining Preston first on loan before signing permanently in July 2016.

After a spell on loan at Portsmouth, Doyle rediscovered his scoring touch in a struggling Oldham side last year.

He was strongly linked with moves to Aberdeen and Peterborough this summer in deals reported to be worth £300,000.

City head coach Michael Collins added: “Eoin has shown a real desire to come to our club and that is testament to his character. We feel he will integrate very well into the group.

“He will give everything he has to the team – every time he steps out onto the field. His infectious attitude to his work will be invaluable for us.”

Meanwhile, the departure of Wyke caps the end to a summer of uncertainty regarding the striker, who only had a year left on his contract at Valley Parade.

City have opted to cash in on the 25-year-old, who scored scored 23 goals in 62 games in all competitions for the club, as well as picking up 13 assists.

The striker joined City from Carlisle in January 2017, with the Cumbrians reportedly set to benefit from a sell-on clause.
