CITY have completed the signing of former Blackpool defender Kelvin Mellor, who has agreed a two-year deal at Valley Parade.

The 27-year-old right back has spent the past two seasons with the Tangerines after joining them from Plymouth Argyle.

He departed home-town club Crewe Alexandra in 2014, prior to signing for Plymouth, after various loan spells, including one for Icelandic club IBV Vestmann.

Mellor said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here and cannot wait to get going. It means a lot be a part of such a big club, which is going in the right direction.

“I will bring experience to the team. I have played a fair few games over the years and am hoping to enjoy some good times here.

“I have trained with the squad and it has been fantastic. The lads are buzzing going into Saturday.

“The vibe is good and a talented squad has been put together going into what should be an exciting season.

“The gaffer knows what he wants from us and the players are buying into it in training.

“This is a tough division to be a part of but we are more than capable of doing what we need to do."

City head coach Michael Collins, a former team-mate of Mellor, is delighted to have secured the defender's services until at least the end of the 2019/20 season.

Collins said: “Kelvin has been on our radar for some time and, having shared a dressing room with him, I have seen first hand his qualities as a player and a person.

“He will add even more strength to the group and his versatility will be invaluable.

“Kelvin is ambitious and I am delighted he has chosen Bradford as the club he feels will allow him to achieve success.”
