JACK Payne has promised City fans: You’re in for a treat with Sean Scannell.

Payne knows the winger very well from being team-mates together at Huddersfield.

And he insists that Scannell, who has moved to Valley Parade for an undisclosed fee, is going to be a powerful presence in Michael Collins' team.

“Sean Scannell will be a great signing,” said Payne. “I know him really well and he’s a great player who is strong, fast and athletic.

“He is also good on the ball and a big threat in attack. He creates chances and I can only speak positively about him.

“The good thing is he is big, can hold off defenders and will get the ball up the pitch. But that doesn’t stop him moving well and he’s an exciting signing for the club.

“It is funny how it has worked out. The two of us moving here has been a bit of a coincidence.

“It is nice for me and nice for him. It should help us settle in and we’re both excited.”

Playmaker Payne made a significant first impression on his new loan club in Tuesday’s friendly against Sheffield United. He netted City’s opening goal and looked a live-wire figure in an attacking midfield role.

He added: “It was nice to score but the night was more about the fitness side of things.

“Sheffield United got us moving, especially in that first half. That was useful for me.

“I hadn’t trained with Bradford beforehand and hadn’t done much with Huddersfield either.

“Those were my first minutes on the pitch but I was pleased with how I felt, a lot fitter than I thought I might be. It was a good run-out in the end.”

Payne was a man in demand after impressive loan stints last season at Oxford and Blackburn. But he revealed that City got in ahead of the others.

“Bradford were the first to show real interest,” he said. “That is always important.

“From what I was told by the manager and talking to a few others, Bradford seemed the keenest to sign me. You want to go where you are wanted.

“I already knew a couple of the lads already here so had a word with them. Only positive things were coming back to me and that made it a no-brainer.

“I am in the team to get on the ball and make things happen. So far, the manager looks to trust me to do that.

“The other players also got the ball to me, which suggests they trust me.”

Having won three promotions in the last four years, Payne is eyeing another big season with the Bantams. He is impressed with what he has seen so far.

“Admittedly it is early days and the Sheffield United game was the first time I had seen the lads. But there seems to be a lot of quality here, along with a good mix of experience and talent.

“I know League One well. The size of the club was a big thing for me. Every time I played here, the atmosphere was great.

“Naturally, that makes it a place you want to be involved. I know what to expect due to being in this league last year.

“Based on what i have seen so far, there is no reason why we can’t be successful.

“Every team will be the same in pre-season, things need working on. But we have a couple more weeks.

“The big thing is the infrastructure needs to be right and it seems to be here.”
