THORNTON maintained their stranglehold on the Spenser Wilson Halifax League Premier Division in some style.

Devoid of the services of wicket machine Jack Earle due to injury, understrength Mytholmroyd conceded 337-8 on the hottest afternoon of the season, with Ben Burkill (80) and Nick Hutchinson (135) adding 198 for the second wicket.

Hutchinson hit 18 fours and seven sixes and Burkill 13 fours and one six, and the total was then swelled by Oliver Dunn (52) and Michael Shanks (38), Adrian Gawthrope performing manfully on the hottest afternoon of the year by taking 5-130 in 21 overs.

Tom Earle got Royd's innings off to a start with a robust 47 but Bradley Weatherhead’s 4-51 and Ross Parr's 3-45 condemned them to defeat, despite a wagging tail.

Warley stayed in the title race with a 126-run win over Oxenhope after posting 268-7 (Ben Atkinson 55, Fateem Khatana 46, Cameron Rodney Jansen van Rensburg 46).

Duncan Tetley (3-59) and Liam Dyson (3-70) were among the wickets, and the latter then top-scored with 23 as Oxenhope were castled for 142, with Luke Duckitt and Greg Keywood rampant, taking 6-57 and 4-44 respectively.

Shelf Northowram Hedge Top folded tamely against SBCI, who picked up some much needed points in the battle to avoid the Premiership trap door.

Hedge Top could only manage 135, which never looked like it was going to be enough, although they took seven SBCI wickets.

The innings of the day came at Bridgeholme, where Copley's Alex Blagborough hit 194, including hitting 22 fours and 11 sixes.

He was well supported by captain Oliver Thorpe, who finished on 121 not out (19 fours, three sixes).

Bridgeholme, who have struggled this season, mustered a spirited reply and only fell 13 runs short.

Bobby Fielden hit 73 (seven fours, six sixes) and under-19 starlet Sohail Sajjid 41 before Yassir Mahmood's 91 not out, including seven sixes and six fours, kept Bridgeholme in the hunt before they finished on 345-7.

Triangle maintained their tradition of scoring heavily at home on what can only be described as a 'road' at Grassy Bottom.

Three centurions took centre stage as openers Nathan Madden and Adams Stocks each hit 101 before Chris Metcalf (138no) set about a weakened Southowram attack in a score of 402-4.

Southowram, languishing perilously close to the drop, could have ill afforded for key men to be away but earned maximum batting points in their reply of 310-5, with the experienced Dean Crossley (64) and Ian Hall (89) leading the way.

Sowerby St Peter's' season is ebbing away and need to start to win matches to stop the rot.

However, they could only manage 160-9 at home to Booth, who are in hot pursuit of Thornton.

Booth took full advantage, wrapping up the match for the loss of only five wickets, with Hasnain Wajid’s 54 the main contribution.

The match of the day in the First Division was at Clayton, where the hosts beat Bradshaw by 18 runs.

Clayton could only post 209, with Jason Gelder scoring 81 as Aaron Buckley took 5-44 and Simon Collins 3-59.

Bradshaw, who needed a win to keep their promotion challenge on track, found their batting once again succumbing to pressure and, despite Collins' battling 46, they found themselves on the wrong end of the result, fading to 191.

Sowerby Bridge got their season into full swing with a six-wicket win at Queensbury.

The home side once again relied on Ollie Challis to steer them into a winning position, and he scored 84 of their 263 (Jake Dixon 6-103), but once more they failed to bat all their overs, which could be one of their main downfalls if they are relegated.

Sowerby Bridge were never in danger chasing the total on a decent deck and reached their target for the loss of only four wickets.

Stones faced Great Horton Park Chapel at Ewart Street, but could only post 142-9 (James Robbins 60, Matthew Jordan 4-43), and this was knocked off by the hosts for the loss of seven wickets, Chris Brown leading the way with 38.

Illingworth St Mary’s maintained their grip on the Roy Smith division with a 77-run win over struggling Blackley.

Making 240-9 on one of the best wickets in the league, St Mary's total always seemed imposing with the quality of their bowling, and that proved to be the case.

Blackley, after fielding for 45 overs in the blazing sun, fell short with 163, Jamie Moorhouse taking 7-57.

In the Terry Wynne Second Division, Outlane provided the shock of the day by demolishing title-chasing Mount’s 250 with ease.

Mount set the standard, with Mahmab Soyeb Gheelawa (76) and Anees Rawat (65) both hitting half centuries, backed by by Imran Ravat (47no).

Mosan Raza was the pick of the Outlane attack with 5-56, and they found a hero with the bat too as Lee Mellor controlled the innings with 111 not out ably, supported by 69 from Chris Brook as they reached their target for the loss of only two wickets in the 40th over.

Cullingworth’s season goes from bad to worse, and they struggled to 86 (Steve Welch 39, James Crossland 21) at Low Moor HT, with Matty Haley demolishing the tail to finish with 4-9.

Low Moor were never in trouble and secured the win for the loss of only three wickets, with James Overend unbeaten on 33.

Upper Hopton maintained the pressure on the top two with a hard-fought win against fellow chasers Luddenden Foot.

Batting first, Upper Hopton must have thought that their 142 (Steven Adams 40) was woefully short on their home ground but an inspired spell of bowling from the same player (6-26), backed up by Matt Broadbent (3-27) meant that Foot collapsed to an under-par 59, dealing their own chances a significant blow.

Old Town kept the pressure on Mount with a six-wicket win over mid-table Leymoor.

The latter scored a competitive 200, with the best contribution coming from Martin Allison (50) ahead of late efforts by No 10 Richard Jones (43) and No 9 Mark Coulson (27).

Old Town were never really tested in their run chase, and Adil Shah’s 69 not out helped the title contenders home with six wickets to spare.

Bradley and Colnebridge kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a five-wicket win at Greetland.

Ishtaiq Hussain reduced the Greetland innings to 165 with an excellent 6-39, and Bradley were more functional than flamboyant in achieving the win with plenty of overs to spare.
