BULLS WOMEN head coach Mark Prescott hailed an "almost faultless" display as his side reached the Challenge Shield final with an emphatic 58-0 win at Wakefield Trinity.

Having bowed out to Castleford early in the Challenge Cup, the Bulls will now face Stanningley in the Shield showpiece at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, August 4.

After a tight opening 20 minutes, Bradford made a breakthrough as Amy Broadman’s sharp pass allowed Shona Hoyle to cut through and touch down under the posts. Leah Jones, who converted an incredible nine out of ten, was on hand to make it 6-0.

Jess Courtman soon extended the Bulls’ lead in similar fashion, latching on to a flat ball to saunter through the Wakefield guard, before Heather MacDonald was next over the line, showing incredible strength to fight off her tacklers.

Bradford’s fourth try rightly prompted those in attendance to applaud. Courtman, unable to reach a pass seemingly destined to go out of play, volleyed the ball upfield for Jones to gather and put on the afterburners to slide in at the corner, with her kick making it 24-0 at half-time.

The Bulls’ dominance continued after the break, as quick hands from Courtman and debutant Becky Conlon left Kirsty Moroney with a clear route to the line. Jones’ dazzling pace was on show again as she picked up a wayward ball before turning to leave the Trinity defence for dead, then flicking it to Hoyle to score her second of the game.

Courtman stunned the crowd again with her second, seemingly coming from nowhere to steal the ball inches from the hands of Amy Brinkley following Jones’ Crossfield kick.

Moroney was next to double her tally, capitalising on a blistering run from Hoyle to pick up and waltz through the scrambled Wakefield defence.

Reagan Walker and Stacey Greenwood completed the scoring for Bradford.

Prescott said: “We were almost faultless, considering the fact we kept a clean sheet and the number of points we scored.

“We haven’t had the rub of the green lately and I keep saying when we lose that we’re not far off the opponent, but I think this being a cup game took the pressure off us.”

Conlon marked her first competitive game with a solid performance and said: “I’m really happy with how I performed. I just need to keep pushing and bringing new things to the team.

“I had been training for only five months before I was signed by Bradford, so now I need to keep working hard.”

After her tremendous kicking display, Jones claims she would be happy to continue in the role.

She said: “It’s usually Claire Garner’s job and she is a fantastic kicker, but if she’s not feeling it, I’ll be there.”
