MICHAEL Collins insists he is no hurry to fill the gaps in City’s squad.

Connor Wood and Sherwin Seedorf have been added to the ranks since Collins was announced as head coach a week ago.

The Bantams have now signed six new faces during the summer, as well as bringing in teenage Barnsley striker Tom Clare for the development squad.

But there is still work to be done to strengthen the ranks, which includes finding a new first-choice keeper following Colin Doyle’s departure.

And there is also growing speculation surrounding Charlie Wyke - with Phil Parkinson's Bolton understood to be showing an interest for the striker thought to have a £1 million price tag going into the final year of his Valley Parade deal.

Collins, though, is relaxed about the situation ahead of the start of pre-season training on Thursday and is prepared to wait for the right recruits.

He said: “I will stress we won’t rush into signings.

“Just because I’m young, I feel under no pressure to go out and make a signing to make a statement.

“I will happily wait to get the right characters. That’s the big thing for me.

“This is a unique club in this division in the sense that players have also got to be able to come in and handle playing in front of 15,000.

“That’s not always the easiest thing. You can have ability but once you are put out there and have to deal with that sort of pressure, then it becomes a completely different ball game.

“We’re being very open-minded with our approach to players but we’re not in a rush. If I have to wait, then I’m more than happy to.”

Sources in the north-west claim that Bolton looked at Wyke in January as a possible replaccment for Gary Madine but a deal could not be done. Now they could be tempted to try again for City's top scorer.

Collins still believes he is inheriting a strong base to work from, despite City’s collapse during the second half of last season which saw them drop away from play-off contention.

“Yes, we finished the season a little bit lacking in confidence,” he added. “But that’s not to say that when they come back, they won’t be firing again and we can give them that lift.

“I keep trying to stress we’ve already got good players in the building.

“If I was coming in and there were 10 signings to make then it would be different. But there is a platform to build from and I’m happy with that.

“We know they can showcase themselves at the level they can get to. Add to that the fact we are actively recruiting players to strengthen the squad and things are starting to speed up a little bit.”

New rules for this season will see the deadline for permanent transfers brought forward to Thursday, August 9. Loan deals can still be done up to the end of that month.

Collins said: “It makes the recruitment process a lot more important, making sure you are touching base with the people you intend to bring in.

“But we’ll wait for the right characters and we won’t be rushed.

“We’d be very happy if we got the ones on the list. But if we don’t get them through the door for whatever reason, then we’re not panicking.”
