YORKSHIRE have claimed four wickets and kept Hampshire in check during the opening session of day three at the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire, replying to a first-innings 350, have advanced from 245-3 overnight to 311-7 on a slow pitch at lunch, trailing by 39.

They have lost Tom Alsop for 63, Jimmy Adams for 147, Ian Holland for 31 and Ollie Rayner for a duck, two of them going to Jack Brooks and the other two to Tim Bresnan and Steve Patterson.

While Hampshire could still claim a first-innings lead, they would have been hoping for more impetus today. But some tight Yorkshire bowling has thwarted them.

Brooks trapped Alsop lbw and had Holland caught behind. Sandwiched in between, Bresnan had Adams caught behind with a beauty of a delivery which rose sharply from short of a length. Just before lunch, Patterson had Rayner caught behind as the score fell to 310-7.

Yorkshire, meanwhile, have claimed five bonus points to Hampshire’s six in this match.

Gareth Berg will begin the afternoon on 15 and Kyle Abbott on two.
