MARTYN Moxon praised James Vince's superb 171 after knocking Yorkshire out of the Royal London One-Day Cup at Hampshire today.

The White Rose director of cricket also hailed the Vikings' fighting spirit, while admitting they weren't on top form in the 107-run semi-final defeat.

"We weren't quite at our best in the field. Having said that, we fought hard," he said.

"We came up against James Vince, who played a magnificent innings. He was potentially the difference between the two teams.

"He's a serious talent, and he played magnificently. When someone plays that well, it's hard to match it.”

Jonny Tattersall tried his best to match it with a career-best 89 as Yorkshire chased a 349 target and were bowled out for 241.

"Jonny was brilliant," said Moxon. "It's great to see. He's now played two really important innings for us, which is very pleasing. He's shown he's capable of performing at this level.”

Unfortunately for Moxon and the Yorkshire dressing room, the loss was tinged with frustration as they did not get the rub of the green.

"We don't want to make excuses, but I think some big decisions went against us today," added Moxon.

"You can't put it all down to that because we weren't quite at our best. But they were big decisions, and it's disappointing in a semi-final," he said.

"The Vince one was the big one – lbw off Patterson (when he was on 106).”

On the competition as a whole, which saw Yorkshire win five games on the run at the end of the group stage and including Thursday's eliminator against Essex, Moxon added: "There have been some excellent team performances and some outstanding individual performances.

“So, as much we are disappointed tonight, we take heart from that.

"Galey and I are proud of the effort and the skills the players have shown."
