THE T&A understands that Robbie Stockdale is not in line to become the new Bantams head coach.

Speculation in national media this morning has suggested that the 38-year-old was poised to land the vacant Valley Parade post following his departure from the Sunderland coaching staff this week.

But the former Scotland and Middlesbrough defender is not believed to be on the City short-list.

Stockdale had been with the Black Cats since 2012, rising up from youth team coach to working with the first team. He had two spells in caretaker charge last season following the departures of former City boss Simon Grayson and Chris Coleman.

However, new Sunderland boss Jack Ross has axed Stockdale and goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker as he brings his own team in.

The Bantams have entered a second month in their search to replace Grayson.

Former player Paul Heckingbottom had been strongly linked with the post but it is believed he wants a period away from management following his Leeds dismissal.
