CENTURION Adam Lyth ensured Yorkshire comfortably reeled in a target of 294 to beat Leicestershire by nine wickets at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road and give their Royal London one-day Cup hopes a much-needed boost.

Matthew Fisher claimed a superb 3-40 from 10 overs during his first match of the season following a side tear suffered, ironically, while bowling here in pre-season.

The Foxes, who elected to bat, posted 293-9 before Lyth and Tom Kohler-Cadmore continued their excellent form at the top of the order in this competition to secure a second win from five matches.

The pair shared 153 inside 23 overs. While Kohler-Cadmore hit 74 off 71 balls, Lyth expertly pushed on to 132 not out off 127 deliveries with 15 fours and two sixes.

Che Pujara’s classy unbeaten 81-ball 75 also marked his fourth successive score above 50. The win was secured with 3.3 overs remaining.

Yorkshire now have five points thanks to two wins and Friday’s washed out no result against Nottinghamshire.

Kohler-Cadmore and Lyth posted their fourth-successive opening stand above 70, dominating a home attack with little potency on a good pitch following a watchful first three or four overs.

Lyth reached his fifty off 36 balls and did the lion’s share of the scoring before Kohler-Cadmore, a man in supreme touch of late, launched Callum Parkinson’s left-arm spin for six over long-on in the 14th over.

Yorkshire went beyond 100 in the 15th, and from there it was all but game over.

Kohler-Cadmore, 23, reached his fifty off 55 balls shortly afterwards and is now the leading run-scorer in the competition with 366 from four innings.

A crowd of just over 2,000 saw Yorkshire significantly boost their net run-rate on Family Fun Day at Grace Road, with snakes even present as part of an animal experience zone for children.

Thankfully for Yorkshire, it was all ladders in their chase as Lyth reached his fourth career century off 96 balls. By which time, the visitors were into the 220s with one wicket down.

He and Pujara shared an unbroken second-wicket stand of 142 inside 25 overs in routine fashion.

The day started with the Vikings making four changes to the team which lost to Worcestershire last Wednesday, with Gary Ballance, Fisher, Liam Plunkett and Jonny Tattersall replacing Jack Leaning, Tim Bresnan, James Wainman and Andrew Hodd.

Fisher struck with his third ball when, in the second over, Cameron Delport was trapped lbw.

The seamer then had Paul Horton caught at mid-off in the 10th over, by which time the score was 39-3, and returned at the death to get Richard Jones caught behind off a top-edge.

From 39-3, the Foxes did well to threaten 300, and it was largely down to fourth-wicket pair Mark Cosgrove and Ned Eckersley, who shared 128 inside 21 overs.

Cosgrove top-scored with 84 off 88 balls, while Eckersley hit 50 - a score matched later by Neil Dexter.

Ben Coad impressed with the new ball for 2-46 from nine overs, while Adil Rashid added 2-70 from nine, including Cosgrove brilliantly caught at long-on by Kohler-Cadmore, who kept his balance just inside the ropes.

Plunkett (1-50 from 10) removed Eckersley, but he left the field during the latter stages of the innings flexing his left leg.

Yorkshire’s sixth North Group match is away at the Derbyshire on Wednesday (11am).
