DARREN Moore revealed he accepted the role "instantly" after being unveiled as West Brom's permanent new manager.

The Baggies, relegated to the Sky Bet Championship, appointed Moore as head coach on Friday after the 44-year-old's impressive stint as caretaker boss.

"I'm extremely proud," the former Bantams defender said. "It's a great moment for me. I accepted the offer instantly. I'm really looking forward to the job ahead."

The 44-year-old has signed an "improved and extended contract" having initially been given the role on a temporary basis following Alan Pardew's dismissal at the start of April.

Moore steered West Brom to three wins – including victories against Manchester United and Tottenham – and two draws in six Premier League matches.

The revival staved off relegation until the last week of the season and restored pride during the closing stages of a miserable campaign.

Ex-Albion defender Moore added: "The Championship is a very tough, gruelling, relentless league with many challenges to overcome and I'm very much looking forward to it. Having played in that division I know what lies ahead.

"The ultimate ambition is to keep this club moving forward. To say it's promotion would be wrong because there are 23 other clubs vying for that.

"We will come together as a football club to discuss the budget and transfers and things like that and it will be a busy summer, but together as a club we will discuss all that."

On the make-up of his backroom team, Moore – touted as a potential target for the Bantams had he not been offered the permanent role at West Brom – said he would be appointing an "assistant head coach", but added he was not yet in a position to name him.

West Brom chief executive Mark Jenkins said Moore was one of a number of people interviewed for the role.

He said: "More than anything, he encapsulates what we want at this club: pride, honesty, hard work, and he loves the Albion.

"After eight years in the Premier League we need to get back to those fundamentals.

"There will be no player brought in without Darren saying yes to them. It's pointless bringing in players he won't play. It will be a strong budget because we've just been relegated. It's not about how much you spend, it's about what you spend it on.

"This club does not have to sell any player to balance the books."
