BRADFORD'S Darren Tetley has won the WBO European welterweight title after beating Mason Cartwright at Elland Road last night.
The Holme Wood boxer triumphed by technical knockout in the ninth round when a big shot cut Cartwright's lip badly and the referee stopped the fight.
It was a great comeback from the 24-year-old, who had been behind on points but came on strong in the second half of the contest.
Two of the judges still had Cartwright just ahead when the stoppage happened, with the other having them level.
But Tetley – wearing Grandad on his shorts in tribute to his late grandad Ernie – was clearly in the ascendancy and forced a knockdown in the eighth round.
The win – his 16th of an unbeaten professional career – makes him a contender for the British crown.
