LONDON Skolars have refuted claims from Bulls chairman Andrew Chalmers that Ian Lenagan is to become an investor in their club.
Chalmers made the claim concerning the Wigan RL owner in his Telegraph & Argus Bulls Bulletin column ahead of last weekend's League One fixture between Bradford and Skolars at Odsal.
Referring to Saturday's clash, which the hosts won 54-16, the Bulls chief wrote: "It will be an interesting battle as I understand from CEO Mark Croston that Ian Lenagan is becoming an investor in London Skolars.
"We all know that means expect an avalanche of new loan players to pour onto the field, looking to knock us off the top of the table.
"All's fair in love, war and rugby league..."
However, in a statement issued in response to Chalmers' piece, Skolars' non-executive director and majority shareholder Hector McNeil said: "Contrary to the article in the Telegraph and Argus this weekend where Andrew Chalmers CEO of Bradford Bulls stated Wigan RL owner Ian Lenagan is becoming an investor in London Skolars, this is not the case.
"London Skolars have not agreed any investment by Ian, Wigan or any other club or investor. The club has a great relationship with Ian and Wigan, namely around the highly successful Capital Challenge held annually in January at the Honourable Artillery Company.
"It is true the club is currently conducting a capital raise to fund investment on and off the field to help us achieve promotion to the Championship and beyond.
"As owners, we are actively seeking investment from existing shareholders and also discussing expressions of interest with several interested third parties. All parties are in agreement that the game of rugby league has vast global potential, illustrated with the rise of friends London Broncos alongside overseas success stories such as Toronto, Catalans and Toulouse. What most expansionists agree is that there is a fundamental need for top flight rugby league club in London and in key geographies.
"But to be clear, no investment has been currently agreed. We do however remain receptive to serious enquiries from any investors interested in joining our ambitions to establish a world class rugby league club in the centre of London.”
