BRADFORD-born Fabian Delph has been celebrated by his former school in Tong after winning the Premier League title with Manchester City.

England international Delph, who attended Tong Leadership Academy between 2001 and 2006, was the subject of a 24-foot high projection outside the school.

The image, created by Manchester-based firm Beyond90 alongside those of Delph’s team-mates in other locations, was shared on social media and has been praised for its impact on current pupils.

Hamid Patel, Chief Executive of Tauheedul Education Trust, which runs Tong Leadership Academy, said: “We are proud to have Fabian Delph among our alumni.

“He is an inspirational role model for current pupils and a fine example of someone who worked hard at a sport he showed great promise in and, with nine England caps and a Premiership title to his name, achieved his goals.

“What’s really pleasing is that it was Delph’s own family who chose Tong as a location from his formative years that has a strong emotional resonance for him.

“Clearly, they recognise how the support and learning Delph was offered there helped to shape him into the champion he is today.

“We continue to support all our pupils in this way, nurturing them to be the best that they can be whether that’s following a path to university, pursuing a career in the creative arts or excelling in sport.”

Delph’s former PE teacher at the school, Jonathan Murby, added: “Fabian was an excellent all-round athlete with a particular flair for football and basketball.

“He was a valued member of school representative teams and a talented sportsman who was well respected by all his peers and teammates.

“He led by example on the field of play and always stood out due to his natural flair, fitness and determination to win.”
