BRADFORD City avenged last week’s West Riding County Cup final defeat to Guiseley Vixens with a 3-0 win in the FA Women’s Premier League on Thursday night.

The Bantams claimed the bragging rights in this season’s third instalment of the local derby, with Hannah Campbell scoring twice while Laura Elford curled home her 25th of the campaign.

Coming just eight days after they handed their County Cup title over to the Vixens following a 3-1 defeat, midfielder Hannah Smith believes that loss had a huge impact on Thursday’s victory.

“I think defeat last week really gave us that incentive to go out there and win,” she said.

“We knew as a team we didn’t have the best game in the cup final and we were disappointed with our performance.

“We went into Thursday’s game with the right mind set. We wanted to go out there and prove that we are a much better team than what we displayed last week and we definitely did that.”

City were on the front foot from the off, hitting the woodwork three times in the early stages, and took the lead before the interval when Campbell cut inside and bent the ball into the top corner.

Elford did her best impression of that effort in the second period, before Campbell capitalised on defensive hesitancy for City’s third.

Smith said: “I think we are a team where if we have lost a game, we go into the next one with the attitude of getting the win.

“I think that was the case this week. The loss made us want it that bit more and it really showed because everyone played well.”

“We played a lot of good football and did what we know we are capable of.”
