Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup semi-final: Liversedge 5 Handsworth Parramore 2

LIVERSEDGE'S season will end with a huge game after the club booked themselves a place in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup final last night with a home win against all the odds.

The Sedge squad has been stretched beyond belief in recent weeks but manager Jonathan Rimmington galvanised them for the semi-final against Premier Division rivals Handsworth Parramore, and they did the business.

The Ambers finished fourth in the top tier and were involved in the push for promotion throughout the campaign before missing out in the final furlong.

Sedge will end in 11th place, despite the outcome of their last league game against neighbours Thackley tomorrow.

Handsworth were big favourites as they visited Clayborn for last night’s semi-final but Sedge showed their intent from the off, and Danny Walker headed home a fifth-minute corner.

However, the Ambers hit back when an Ozzy Radford header converted a free-kick soon after.

Sedge were on a mission though and took control of the tie with two goals in a four-minute spell just after the half-hour.

Tom Brooke slotted in to restore Sedge’s lead after the visitors failed to clear a corner, and minutes later Marc Lumb made it 3-1.

Joe Walton netted the fourth almost halfway through the second half and, although the Ambers hit back later through Will Eades, the hosts wrapped up the scoring ten minutes from time when Danny Farrar converted a back-post header.

Sedge’ prize is a trip to Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane in the final, and Handsworth were the first to admit it was a deserved passage and wished Rimmington’s men well.

Liversedge will face either Bridlington Town or AFC Mansfield.

Both finished above Sedge in the table but Rimmington and his players will not be fazed.

The Sedge boss said: “We will give both a game as we have drawn with both and beaten both this season.

”Everyone at Liversedge is certainly looking forward to Monday, May 21 and the chance of picking up a trophy at Bramall Lane."
