FOLLOWING the departure of Simon Grayson as City boss today, the T&A takes a look at some potential replacements as the hunt begins for the next Bantams manager.

Uwe Rosler

Once again, the German is right up among the bookies' favourites to take over, given his connections with City's owners.

Rosler put Stefan Rupp and Edin Rahic in touch with a couple of other clubs before they bought the Bantams.

He was heavily backed to take over at Valley Parade after Phil Parkinson left in 2016, having been seen at a number of City games prior to the takeover.

But he insisted that was purely coincidence and the former Brentford, Wigan and Leeds boss took over at Fleetwood, with whom City would ironically come up against in last season's play-off semi-finals.

He was sacked shortly after the Bantams' 2-1 win at Highbury on New Year's Day.

Darren Moore

Has burst into the Premier League spotlight over the last month thanks to an unbeaten run as caretaker West Brom manager following Alan Pardew's exit.

The former centre half would be a popular choice among the City faithful, who still remember him fondly for the key role he played in the helping the Bantams to their historic promotion to the top flight in 1999.

His experience of working with young players in the youth set-up at Albion will appeal to City's owners. And perhaps even more importantly, such an appointment would help get disaffected fans back onside.

Of course, his exploits in outwitting Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino mean he is already being touted for the role as permanent Baggies boss – regardless of whether he can achieve the unthinkable and keep them up.

But that prospect still remains a long shot and the club's owners are still reportedly looking elsewhere.

Phil Brown

Understood to be a strong contender before Simon Grayson's arrival, Brown took over at Swindon a month later on a similar short-term contract until the end of the season.

The former Southend boss was unable to propel the Robins into the League Two play-off places. He was due to have talks today over his future at the County Ground with chairman Lee Power, the former Bantams striker.

Having earned promotion to League One with the Shrimpers in 2015, he has plenty of experience in League One before he was placed on gardening leave in January.

He was used to working on tight budgets at Southend and was noted for his willingness to embrace the club's academy.

Mick McCarthy

The former Ipswich boss is back on the market having recently left his post following six years at the helm at Portman Road.

The straight-talking Yorkshireman is keen to get back in the game and is already installed as favourite to take over at home-town club Barnsley following the exit of Jose Morais after their relegation to League One.

McCarthy would bring a wealth of experience, having also managed Millwall, Sunderland and Wolves domestically while also boasting six years in charge of the Republic of Ireland.

Steve Cotterill

A much-travelled boss who enjoyed success in League One with Bristol City, leading them to a comprehensive title triumph in 2015.

Promotion that year was sealed with a 6-0 hammering of Phil Parkinson's City side at Valley Parade.

Things did not work out for Cotterill – who first took Cheltenham Town into the Football League – in the Championship though and he was dismissed in January 2016.

A brief spell at struggling Birmingham City this season has not enhanced is CV, which also includes spells with Stoke City, Burnley, Notts County, Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest.

Has been installed as joint favourite with Sky Bet along with Rosler.

Michael Flynn

A left-field choice which would be a gamble but the former City captain has already made a name for himself as Newport boss.

The Welshman pulled off a minor miracle in rescuing County from what looked like certain relegation into non-league last season.

And he has built on that achievement with a solid mid-table finish in his first full campaign as manager.

His stock rose again with an eye-catching FA Cup run which saw Newport knock out Leeds and give Tottenham a scare.

Would arrive with an already-established affinity with City fans.
