PUDSEY St Lawrence, who finished fourth last season in the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League Premier Division, reckon that they have signed three players in one in Jordan Thompson.

“He is good at all three disciplines,” said Saints chairman Chris Gott of the 21-year-old, who has been released by Yorkshire.

However, Thompson should have no problem fitting in as he was brought up as a junior at Tofts Road.

Gott said: “We have kept all of the lads who played for us last season and we are delighted to have Jordan back, who has been with us since he was about 14, and he will add to our team.”

Saints, who finished behind champions Hanging Heaton, Woodlands and Farsley last season, are top of the fledgling table with a maximum haul at Lightcliffe last weekend, putting them a point ahead of Methley, Hanging Heaton and New Farnley.

“Lightcliffe had to change their wicket in order to prevent damage not only to that wicket but to the square, so we played on the edge of the square – as near to the boundary as I have seen for a first-team game,” said Gott.

The hosts were 55-1 but were rolled over for 84 by Richie Lamb (5-28) and Chris Marsden (4-18), playing, as Gott described it, “some injudicious shots”.

Mark Robertshaw (36) and Adam Waite (39no) then took the visitors to the brink of victory with an opening stand of 74 before Charlie Best (12no) finished the job.

Gott added: “We think that Hanging Heaton, Woodlands, ourselves, Bradford & Bingley, New Farnley and Farsley will be challenging, and the task for the other teams will be to win matches against each other and nick the odd win against the top five or six.

“But it is difficult for clubs like Scholes, who have been promoted, relegated and promoted again as most of the top players are either at the more established Premier Division clubs or even in other leagues.

“It takes a couple of years for a club to establish themselves, then they can build.”
