BULLS captain Lee Smith spoke of his delight as the Bradford Bulls charged back into winning ways with an emphatic 52-6 victory over the Coventry Bears.

Smith welcomed the new additions of Jy Hitchcox and James Laithwaite, Hitchcox showing his quality to grab a double, whilst Laithwaite added steel into the defence.

Over 3,000 fans turned out at Odsal for Sunday’s doubleheader which unfortunately saw the Women’s team downed by newly-formed Leeds.

“Coming off the back of the defeat to Workington, we needed to bounce back. We managed to break them down well and put a few points on the scoreboard,” said Smith.

“We addressed our mistakes from last week. We as players wanted to put things right.

“Obviously to get a score-line as we did gives us a bit of confidence, Coventry tested us in the first half, they were resolute and it took our best rugby to get through.

“I think the two new guys went very well. Everyone knows what Jy has to offer out wide and James really shored us up on our edges.

“The doubleheader was great, to see that many fans attend both games was special and shows this club is serious about growing both teams. Hopefully, we can both be in Super League in good time.”

Bradford Bulls face their biggest test of the season today as they travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium to take on the Warrington Wolves.

Unbeaten in their last six matches, the Wolves pose a huge threat to the Bulls, yet many see it is a real test for where the side is at.

Smith insists there is no pressure on his side going into the game and it is a great chance to enjoy the occasion.

“We’re going up against one of the best teams in the country at the moment, so regardless of the result we’re just going to enjoy ourselves throughout the build-up and the match,” said Smith.

“This is what we play the sport for, the big matches, a few of the lads will not have played in a stadium like this and in front of as many fans.

“We’re talking about England internationals and former NRL players, but that is not something we’ll be worried about, if we can focus on ourselves then we should give them a game.

“There’s talk of it being a free hit and a test of where we are, in many ways it’s both. There’s no pressure on us and if we show up with the right attitude then who knows.”
