DELIGHTED Simon Grayson felt City stepped it up a notch in last night’s 3-1 win over Portsmouth.

Goals from Nathaniel Knight-Percival, Matty Lund and Charlie Wyke earned the Bantams only their second win in 16 games.

They have taken seven points from the last nine at Valley Parade and Grayson was pleased to see them build on the previous week’s draw with Shrewsbury.

He said: “We always knew it was going to be a tough game because they are a strong team pushing for the play-offs.

“We stressed to the players before that they set standards last week and we had to go beyond them if we wanted to win.

“We had to be better than the Shrewsbury game in every department and take it up another notch or two.

“We had to run further and quicker, play better and be more positive with more crosses and shots. You saw the team do everything we asked of them.”

City will assess Tyrell Robinson after the winger was stretchered off late on with a shoulder injury. But with less than three weeks left, it is looking unlikely that he will be able to play again this season.

“Tyrell fell on his shoulder,” said Grayson. “We’ll have to wait and see but let’s hope it’s nothing too serious.”

The Bantams boss can sense the belief is returning within the squad 11 days on from hitting the lowest point of the season when they were thrashed 5-0 at Blackpool.

“They’ve moved forward in terms of confidence levels. That doesn’t come back in big leaps, you have to earn it and take it in small steps.

“One of the last things I said to the players was that I didn’t want to come in afterwards talking about ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’.

“Having played well against Shrewsbury, I didn’t want to see them let themselves down.

“But they’ve responded really well from the drubbing and the criticism they got against Blackpool.

“It’s an extra spring in the step, which hopefully we can carry forward into Saturday.”
