BASEMENT boys Bradford Dudley Hill are banking on their home games getting them out of trouble after a fourth successive defeat in Kingstone Press National Conference League Division One.

Hill, beaten 40-16 at Ince Rose Bridge, who thus notched their first win of the campaign, were without influential trio Tony Williams, Dave Halley and Alex Dickinson, and head coach Tony Huby and assistant Lewis Evans both had to play.

Tries by Neil Wall and Seb Russo, both of which were improved by Simon Sewell, enabled Hill to turn round at 12-12 but they could only add a 76th-minute try by Wall in the second half in which they conceded 28 points.

Hill's first-team manager Steve Wright said: "This was a massively disappointing result.

"We now need to make sure we win the majority of our home games, and if we can pick a couple of wins on the road we could be okay, but at the moment it looks like it’s a tough road ahead."

In Division Two, West Bowling made it two wins out of four with a 32-30 home victory over Hunslet Warriors – but only after being 24-0 down after 20 minutes and 30-10 behind near half-time.

"It was a strange game and I could sense that our attitude was not quite where I wanted it to be in the warm-up," admitted Bowling coach Glenn Barraclough.

"But people don't get angry beforehand like they used to and youngsters these days are so laid back and we couldn't change it initially when Hunslet got on a roll.

"However, our fitness began to tell with about 15 minutes to go in the first half and 20 minutes to go in the second half, but I would rather do it easier than this."

Tries came from skipper Richard Lumb (2), James Crabb, Jack Milburn, Jake Green and, in the 78th minute, the winner from Elliott Cousins.
