SIMON Grayson is building up for crunch talks with chairman Edin Rahic over his City future.

The Bantams boss hopes to sit down with Rahic within the next fortnight to discuss several issues that will influence whether he wants to stay or not.

Grayson, whose current deal runs until the end of the season, has been active with recruitment plans but will want guarantees from the joint-owner that the club can match his ambitions.

He said: “There are many, many things, not just my contract but it’s about budgets, the training ground, the pitch.

“There are so many things that will make up my decision whether I’m going to stay or not. We need to know what’s going to happen to the club in general.

“It’s everything that can give us the best opportunity to try and get promotion to the Championship.

“All these things will be in a brutally honest conversation that I need to have with him.

“Hopefully if we agree on a lot then it’s going to make the decision a lot easier.

“We’ve got so many games and the main thing is concentrating on those. But I’m sure we’ll manage to fit these talks in.”

Tonight’s home clash with seventh-placed Portsmouth is the first of six matches over the final 19 days of the League One campaign.

After a more solid display against Shrewsbury, Grayson has warned his players against slacking off over the final weeks.

He added: “If the season was to finish tomorrow, I know what players I want to bring to the club and who I would be letting go but nothing is set in stone.

“Players might have three years left on their contract. But if they play poorly and show a bad attitude for the next six games, they won’t be here next season if I am.

“This is where the good players show what it means to them. They’ll still do it professionally and try to earn a contract and be part of the long-term future here.

“They should realise who’s sat in the stand watching them - agents, other managers, coaches.

“If somebody’s going through the motions and not being bothered, I will give an honest opinion if a manager asks about him. Some will be glowing references and some will be poor.

“The Shrewsbury game was quite easy (to get up for) because of the disappointment from last Saturday, being in front of the Sky cameras and we were at home.

“The true test now is producing a similar performance against Portsmouth when the TV cameras aren’t there. Let’s hope they’ve got the right mental attitude.”

Kenny Jackett’s side are unbeaten in six games and have lost just once in seven away from Fratton Park.

Grayson said: “Knowing Kenny as I do, I don’t think they will be too expansive and open.

“They’ll make it difficult for us and with the likes of Brett Pitman in the team, know they will always get chances. At this point in time, more often than not he’s going to take his opportunities.

“They need points obviously to get into the play-offs and have had some decent results recently.

“We’ve got to match them and ask questions like we did against Shrewsbury.

“The players have set a standard against one of the better teams in the division, so don’t go letting yourselves down again with a lacklustre performance.

“We went back to basics and players worked harder than they have done in the last few weeks. Now we want to go further and make sure we improve on that.”
